No, Cypriots do not hate the British.

You will enjoy Cyprus very much. Take no notice of this thread.

Maybe some Cypriots don't agree with British politics, or some attitudes of certain British tourists, but that is like anywhere else.

perhaps u should read up about britain's role in the cyprus tragedy to consider whether any negative attitudes towards this so-called guarantor of the island's territorial integrity are justified.

They will simply love you..... or at least the contents of your wallet! Then that is the same the world over with tourists.

As ZoC has rightly pointed out there is a lingering resentment of the colonial past for valid reasons ( and I am Brit immigrant here) but that is seldom translated into any problems for the British unless they come across with any sort of superiority complex.

Some of the biggest resentment is (quite rightly) reserved for the Carpet B*ggers (mostly Brits)who have bought what is legally Greek Speaking Cypriot owned property and the tourists who stay in the north and thus seen as supporting the illegal occupation by the Tur*s and their puppet regime.

I don't think Cypriots hate british in fact some wish they were british. Just take any insults with a grain of salt and ALWAYS have good sense of humor. Brits have been part of the landscape for a while now and are part of the family. I think the relationship between Cypriots and Brits is by now almost parallel to the Relationship with Australians who refer to Brits as "Poms" as a term of endearment.

Nobody or very few hate the British civilians but do hate the British military presence (SBA's).
We "see" the Brits as just another visitor who enjoys the sun and beauty of the island...

The bases must go, RoC to utilize the land for a variety of uses, definately not more NG grounds either.

Some think the bases are to spy on the Mid East... what garbage is that! Nowadays, spying is done by satellite, not ground base radars & outdated antennas...
The real reason the MOD wants to keep the bases is purely pride. Remnants of the colonial era such as the SBA's tend to "maintain" the moral
of the Brits and landmark some traces of the British Empire (RIP).

There can be only one solution for the SBA's... get the f**k out of Cyprus before you get kicked out... only a matter of time!
