Arriving in Cyprus soon. Seeking any advice you can give me

Postby RAMAC » Tue Mar 04, 2008 1:44 pm

Hi

I am arriving in Cyprus from Britain later this month intending to work and live there for the next 6 months or so. I've been contacting hotels/tourist resorts/recruitment agencies etc. and have made a few contacts but since this will be my first time in the country if any one has any advice it would be much appreciated. For example, any tips on the best way to approach people. Or indeed if you are an employer looking to hire staff please get in touch with me and I can give you more info about me.

I'm also looking to rent an apartment for during my stay so if anyone can recommend a reputable company to approach that'd be great, since I don't really trust just looking at websites.

Really any info or advice anyone is willing to give would be great.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

I will be arriving in Pafos and have accommodation booked there for a week but I don't have a preference as to where I stay as I'd like to see all of Cyprus.

I have mostly been contacting employers in the tourist sector as I understand this is where most of the jobs are located. My employment background in the UK is mostly in admin but since I don't speak Greek I'm not sure how likely it is I could get a similar post in Cyprus. Most of the vacancies I've looked at require at least some knowledge of Greek.

I hope you understand that for that kind of temporary job the salary will probably be very low. If you just want to do some vacation+work thing then it will be OK but don't expect to be able to afford luxuries or to make any savings based on the salary you will get!

There are quite a lot of international call centres in Cyprus and they regularly recruit English speaking staff - even better if you can offer fluency in another language as well. Look at the Situations Vacant section of the English-language newspapers (Cyprus Weekly, Cyprus Mail, Sunday Mail).
