Sophia, do you know what the words "vysma", "kavatzas", "loufadoros" and "giotas" mean? You can ask your friends!

To be honest I'm not sure it works but there's lots of fun to be had away from the wife and kids when they go for their allotted training days back in the army  .

Personally I regret that the UK stopped national service ~ had we kept it, it may have got some of the nasty little herberts off the streets and taught them how to behave in society .

To be honest national service is not the hardest of things to do ~it just robs you of two years that you could really be doing something better.

What was good about the UK National Service was that they would train you in a profession that you could use in civvy street, or at least give you help in finding a suitable job. Nowadays I feel sorry for the poor youngsters, fighting wars abroad not of their own doing. Pathetic.

National Service is ok when you have an Empire (not saying that an empire is a good thing), you disperse all the young bloods all around the world. Now they end up in Irak, Afghanistan or even worse Ayia Napa.

The military service in Cyprus is a necessary thing for the country as a whole.

It was not created to be enjoyable or beneficial for any individuals.

Forcing somebody to do something they are against never leads to good results. You think by forcing people into doing this sentence, they will do it to the best of their ability?

:? What he is saying is spot on! I don't know what its like nowadays but in the past it was an uncomfortable lifestyle that human beings would naturally prefer not to go through but HAD TO.

From personal experience , my son in law is a regular in the Cyprus army and has been for about 12 years now , the Cyprus army is a highly trained and a well disciplined army. Man to man they are as good as any other soldier , of course I can only relate from my son in laws regiment which I believe is the elite of the Cyprus army. I have met many of his colleagues and I can honestly say they are a dedicated group of professional soldiers.
Some time back I was able to visit the base and do a spot of fishing until a Greek officer , kalamaras , for some strange reason did not like me and politely asked that I do not fish there any more !!
