"Talking to Turkish Cypriots" is in fact absolutely useless for the solution of the Cyprus Problem. What counts is the balance of power and the various interests of those that can have some influence.

I think that the democratically elected heads of the two principal communities in Cyprus might be said to have just a little bit of influence.

The president of Cyprus does have some influence because Cyprus is a UN and EU member. What influence does Talat have? He will do whatever Ankara tells him to do.
