Seconly, thats what happens between 3 separate states. There are no separate states in Cyprus.

No passports?

Postby cymart » Mon Mar 03, 2008 5:29 pm

This is impossible at present for two reasons:firstly, the north of the island is not in the E.U. so the border is effectively an entry/exit point from its territory. How can you stop citizens of non-member states from entering if there is no passport control, including nationals from Turkey?
Rightly or wrongly, there are certain persons which the Turkish Cypriots consider'undesirable' for entry into their area,i.e. known Eoka B members who carried out attacks on them in the past etc. They have a list of people in their computers at all the crossing points and if your name happens to be the same as one of them, hard luck!
On top of all that, there are certain people in the north who are wanted by the British and other authorities for question in connection with serious crimes and they are being discreetly observed. If there is no passport control they could easily slip over to the south and escape abroad via one of the airports here!

Cymart
Is spot on in explaining the continuation of border control into the forseeable future. Opening the Lokmaci crossing is, relatively, costless but would be a real and practical benefit for all parties.

but if you's lot are there, and love it, it obviously isnt disturbing you's.

Don't worry, before you get to any areas that are still mined, you will have been shot way before you find a mine. ;)

And wasn't the 'bombing' a gas explosion, or did I miss something?

Correct, it was 3 large gas cylinders in a kitchen...

Rally DT.??

Man, who did you piss off.

I have walked through the turnstile at Tijuana, USA-Mexico border dozens of times and have driven across few times also, but never had to show an ID going into Mexico.

Coming back into US is another story.

Why not one crossing at a time because one can be used to delay the other on purpose.

Utter rubbish! Upon the RoC' application for EU membership in 1990 the European Commission stated...

"When presenting its application for accession, the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, recognized by the European Community and its Member States as the only legitimate government representing the Cypriot people, addressed the Community on behalf of the whole of the island...''

Get Real
It is not "utter rubbish" to say that north Cyprus is not in the EU. You well know that the acquis communitaire does not apply to the north. If anyone is not familiar with the meaning of the acquis communitaire (which let's face it is 90% plus of the EU population) and the popular media do nothing to clarify the matter, then it is not surprising if people think that formally north Cyprus is not in the EU. If Cymart had said 'north Cyprus is not in the EU acquis' s/he would have been right.
