For the average British tourist it's often much cheaper to travel to the USA and have a great holiday than it is to have two weeks in Cyprus.

A guy I used to work with bought a place in Florida ~ he often commented he could fly to his holiday home twice for the same price I paid for one return flight to Cyprus.

Probably, but at least I feel welcome in Cyprus.

is that welcome as a tourist or an expat living there?

Both actually. But I do not count myself as "expat", I try to fully involve myself in the Cypriot community.

I read a report on another forum that Cyprus airports charge 30 euros per departing passenger, which the Ryanair executive implied are the highest charges anywhere.
Whilst these high charges exist Ryanair refuse to fly into Cyprus.

The following is the bit that concerened me

They stated that if an agreement could be reached Ryanair alone would eventualy be flying in 750,000 visitors a year

Cyprus stag capital of Europe.
Look what Ryan Air did for Krakow,Prague,Riga.
They got the money but they also got the consequences of excessive alcohol consumption.
