Lokmaci Gate

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

As a result of the invasion I lost my father, who died soon after from a stroke and my mother died 6 months later. I think their displacement had everything to do with their deaths.

I am sorry to hear that Bananiot. Displacement for old folk can not be easy. My grandparents too died in 1964 within 6 months of each other. As refugees they ended up eventually with their children in the UK. But that was no consolation of any loss. I am sure this was repeated many times over. May they all rest in peace.

In some English books, it is written as KOUNO KEPHALOS. Their translation was ' heads the shape of a dog head'.

just out of curiosity Bananiot, where were you during 74? (seriously just wondering, this isn't leading to anything)

DT,
we must be honest to each other since my childhood i heard these words ''Shillo Turko ''and ''Gavur'' both sides were attacking each other with these kind of the words . nothing to do with 74 DT,
some how you must learn to clear your mind with 74 . for finding excuses for everything with 74 will lead us for nothing .İmportant thing is we must calculate the right things and we must get lessones from the past . we must realise Turks , Greeks or others are all humanbeings .They all have religion and dignity as well.

Halil, don't assume anything. My reason for asking about 74 was i was genuinely interested where people were at that time.

Bananiot sorry to hear about your father and mother.

It was definitly Kouno. I remember well. They described it as the shape of the back of the head coming down vertically. You see this trend in Kurds and Afgans, Eastern Turkey.

Can you confirm what Kouno means? We used to call each other Gouno in the village, we took it to mean 'an idiot'.

Thinking about this the only person thats been calling other people dogs around here was that Turk Big Al. He even had a saying in Turkish about us gavours being dogs.

DT,
Gavours (Gavur) means that persones does not belive in God.
also there is a saying ''Gavurdan dost , Domuzdan Post olmaz'' its mean '' You cant have a friend from Gavur and it can't be fur from Pig ''
all those words are very bad and rascist but we cant help DT. how they were thinking for each other . like ''best Turk is Death Turk '' ect....etc .....
these kind of the hates didn't started today ...... its backs to hunderd years .......
İmportant is we must laugh to these kind of the words and try to learn just to ignore it but we must not sneer each other too .

Okay, kouno is a Cypriot village term for a dog that is of no pedigree, a mongrel. We used it to refer to someone who was very lazy. Good for nothing.

I a sorry for knitpicking, are you saying that the word Kouno/Guno is purely Cypriot. As the above expression was used to desribe the Turkish invaders of the Byzantine Empire around 1071. So it must have some Greek heritage, unless the phrase was coined by Solon  (or a Greek Cypriot commander of the Byzantine army.)
