Hailil the Turkish side's refusal to remove the soldier presence is another way of saying we don't want a solution simple really.

Just what we all needed in our lives, more regulations.

Very fair comment OrPh, but on the other hand you are also trying to stop illegal immigration in to the Island. Yes, it works both ways. But the checking is done byTC police and not the Turkish soldiers. Cant you see , they are exact clones of GC police with the token policemans moustaches and fat belly's.  Perhaps they are looking for you?

LEKAD CALLS FOR THE OPENING OF APLIC GATE IN LEFKE FOR CIVILIAN CROSSINGS

The Association for Solidarity and Development in Lefke and Surrounding Villages - LEKAD has sent a letter to the two leaders in Cyprus and the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative in Cyprus Michael Moller, calling for the opening of Aplic gate for civilian crossings.
The Aplic Gate in Lefke has been used by the UN staff only since 33 years.

LEKAD President Hakan Oran announced today that the Association has sent a letter to Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias and the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative in Cyprus Michael Moller on the opening of Aplic Gate to civilian crossings.

Mr Oran said it would be wrong to mainly focus on the opening of the Lokmaci gate at a time when some gates currently open for use are kept closed for civilian crossings for various excuses.

Mr Oran said that the Trodos Mountains were only 15 minutes away from the gate and added that the opening of the gate will give a boost to the economies of the surrounding villages and the entire region.

He added that the gate will also create an opportunity for one million tourists visiting the mountains.

He also noted that the opening of the Aplic gate will contribute to the solution of the Cyprus

TRNC make no claim over the South and regard the Green Line as their border, so policemen ask to see credentials of people entering, as they see it, their country.

RoC claim sovereignty over the North but still have policemen checking credentials at the Green Line crossings as people move about, what they see, as their country. Now that's odder.

Just pragmatism.

Are the settlers and illegal immigrants you bring over from Syria etc., just moving about their own country?

And that is why there are policemen on both sides of the Green Line checking credentials. Just pragmatism.

Very pragmatic.
