Cypriot Zeitgeist Under Threat ......

Postby Oracle » Thu Feb 28, 2008 2:58 pm

"Zeitgeist" ...... refers to the ethos or spirit of a group of people, that expresses a view or lifestyle practised at a particular period of socio-cultural progression.

The Zeitgeist of the Cypriots is encompassed in their strong sense of duty, in looking after their own.

It has worked well.

With the influx of "retired" foreigners; idle time to fill ... we are being told that's not good enough!

"Absolve responsibility to a Charity."
"Round up some orphans, some elderly, some neglected pets and let's assign them to a Charity."

Come on lazy Cypriots ... you've been doing things your way here for 10,000 years ... but Johny Foreigner is here to change things to how we do them back home!

So why is your Zeitgeist better than Cypriot Zeitgeist?

Foreign residents have been in Greece much longer than in Cyprus and the phenomenon of having a good lold moan about the locals and Greek bashing was rife. Then the Greeks one upped them, they created movements that are more hardline and anti Greek than those ever dreamed up by foreign residents.

It has gotten to the point that any one who say it is wrong to burn a Greek flag is laughed at for being anachronistic, nationalist, fascist, etc. There are even animal psychologists, feng shui consultants, writing in the press and appearing on mainstream TV programmes.

Same crap will happen to Cyprus no doubt. It is part of Europeanisation.

Better purdey! :D

So you are imposing your will, enforcing the Cypriots to change by insult!

I agree you are doing that.

But the question is:

Why is your way better than the Cypriot way?

Why should the individual give up responsibilities for nurturing and assign these to an institution?

A very valid point - outside of Cyprus in a more perhaps "sophisticated" Euopean county there are many old people, unloved and unwanted and mostly forgotten in Old peoples homes. Its almost the same with children - got a naughty child? Can't cope? Shove it into care. I think that we (Johnny Foreigner  ) Have as much to learn - actually more - from the society in which we now choose to live as they have from us. I hate cruelty, and neglect - but leading by example is one of the better and more constructive ways of achieving change, and far superior to blind critisism.

Oracle,

I've just had a thought! Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the nasty foreigners in Cyprus changed over to Cypriot zeitgeist.
Just imagine a world where there is no animal cruelty and to see all those nice furry pets munching on lanate lollipops, no racism, no exploitation of foreign domestic helpers, no corruption, no litter, and no bitterness because there would be need for foreigners to criticise anything. And, to top it all drivers would actually stop at red lights and be polite. :)
