from a previous posting, I have also discovered that there are very few-to-none orphanges in CY. I was told you take care of your own.
I would assume that would be the same for old folks homes.
I also asked once about volunteering in hospitals, and was told that is not allowed as well. Judging from the amount of trash i saw on my recent visit, it appears they don't volunteer to clean up thier communities either.

So where do the Cypriots do thier Community Services? Where do they volunteer thier time for a better community?

I really don’t know why you waste your breath sometimes GG…how long will it take you to realize that the Cyprus way works and the American way doesn’t?

Your time would be better spent questioning why America has failed despite all the community programs that were in place…

american has not failed. not in the least, and i will not let you railroad this thread to an american bashing.....
and if this thread inspires one person to go do something nice for the rest of the world, or even for cyprus, then that will be a good thing. change happens one person at a time.

Hey lady, you want do something nice? Go help your 3.5 million homeless and forget about the cats and dogs in Cyprus...

You are right there Purdey. Last easter I visited my village in the south. I couldnot help notice the many Sri Lankans provided for the care of the elderly. While the care for the elderly is commendable, I cant help that it is akin to cheap labour. I spoke to a few and they were not happy with their life in Cyprus. Ungrateful lot.

you know nothing of my community service, adn i am not going to lsit it here. suffice to say, i have done service to help the earth, the humans here, ther sick and the pets. we are all in this together, it goes far beyond helping one nation. perhaps you should look at the whole picture, not just your backyard or your island.

 And for goodness sake, GR!, at least quote it correctly "847,000 - 3,470,000" with a differential of 2,623,000! Mighty accurate statistic?!

Points taken for lack of credible sources and inaccurate statistics.

Hey, goofball...

They found that, on a given night in October, 444,000 people (in 346,000 households) experienced homelessness - which translates to 6.3% of the population of people living in poverty. On a given night in February, 842,000 (in 637,000 households) experienced homelessness - which translates to almost 10% of the population of people living in poverty.
Converting these estimates into an annual projection, the numbers that emerge are 2.3 million people (based on the October estimate) and 3.5 million people (based on the February estimate). This translates to approximately 1% of the U.S. population experiencing homelessness each year, 38% (October) to 39% (February) of them being children (Urban Institute 2000).
