Murataga, your historical account and analysis suck big time! You failed to mention that the GC National Guard and the secret importation of Greek troops in 1964, were the direct result of Turkey’s previously expressed and displayed intentions to invade Cyprus and proceed to its partition plans, citing as an excuse the December 1963 inter-communal violence and the so-called collapse of the RoC; regardless of the fact that in both issues the TC leadership had an active role in provoking and even orchestrating them!
Let’s not fool our selves! The reason the TC side refuses the notion of complete demilitarization -today or even after a solution -a notion that naturally will have to also be accompanied by the abolition of the so-called unilateral intervention rights by the so-called guarantor powers, otherwise demilitarization itself is practically meaningless; does not have to do with whatever happened or did not happen in 1963/64, nor with any genuine fear that Cyprus will be used as a platform to threaten Turkey’s territorial integrity. It only has to do with safeguarding Turkey’s illegitimate geo-strategic ambitions in the region, and its view that as a country it should be the one to have the absolute control and say over the entire north-eastern Mediterranean waters and airspace! To this end, it (Turkey) feels that it should have and maintain Cyprus under its suzerainty, in one way or another! The TCs simply act as a willful proxy towards the fulfillment of Turkey’s above stated ambitions, which is why the Cyprus problem remains unsolved to this day because the GCs are not and will never accept such an illegitimate role for Turkey, over and around their own country!
