Is animal cruelty in Cyprus the norm.

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Unfortunately Cypriots do not care about their dogs and are often ill treated, I hated seeing dogs tied up used as commodities without a soul. I was very disheartened to see that.

About the coment that the British love their pets, well that is open to interpretation. Love and control look the same, but the difference is huge.

Oh and then back to rain for the weekend..happy days.

Oh well at least it is not boring,! if it is any consolation it looks as miserable as sin here today. Rain is forecast, keeps everything green I suppose and our ducks enjoy it.

Spring just around the corner :D

This is the offending article:

In the UK we have afair amount of cruelty to animals,so to say all Cypriots neglect their animals is not only untru but unfair. They certainly need to be prosecuted for real cruelty as They in the UK are when caught but poison seems to only happen to the Ex pats animals not the noisy non stop barking Cypriot ones!

You start of bland enough to rope in the unwary ... and then it is an endless racist tirade.
Look in your heart beverly10.
Mitigate your personal agenda.
You only stand to improve.
Good luck.
We are in this together.

Just had to come in on this one !! Generally the third world , Asian and African , are abysmally cruel to animals because of sheer ignorance but there again they are equally cruel to their people !! The difference between cruelty to animals in the UK however and Cyprus , is that in the UK animal cruelty is seen as just that , animal cruelty , the RSPCA will confirm that such cruelty is carried out mostly by unbalanced individuals often referred to as sick bastards. The whole British society , and here I exclude those that consider animals as filthy and a barrier to Angels entering your house , condemns such cruelty and is appalled by such events .In Cyprus however , and I use the example that Tess gave us of the lady with a well groomed dog who on finishing at the vets thought nothing of it and stuck the dog in the boot of her car , people are NOT intentionally cruel to animals but will treat their dogs especially hunting dogs in a manner that we consider as cruel where to them is perfectly the "normal " way to treat animals. Animal welfare , thanks to the Brits mainly , has improved tremendously over the last 15 or so years and the Cypriots are learning and adapting to the "Western" standards quite fast.

The moral of the story is that the further East you go the more cruelty to animals you will find , China is a disgustingly cruel nation to dogs and we all know what they do to them , cruel bastards.

Mitiliades,

I am interested in a comment " a barrier to angels entering your house". Is this part of the scriptures or one of those old wives tails ? We have many in the U.K. , My Grandma believed that angels came in the form of wild birds entering your house, and that they were sent to collect a soul from that house. (She was 94 when she died)

I don't think so, she died in Hospital and the house was locked up. She had been in for a few weeks. Gran said a lot of strange things in the months before she died.

Yes I know , rotten arn't we. We only visited her 3 times a day, as one person left, another arrived. I expect she was glad of the peace at night when there was only her and the umpteen nursing staff.

I would like to see her spend a few sessions with a anger management consultant, who could then report back to the forum with their findings.

Dont worry, I am on her case.

My dear CC , it is a common knowledge that in some parts of Asia , Bangladesh , Pakistan and a number of others , dogs MUST not UNDER any circumstances enter the house. These are not old wives tales but a part of life for those who believe in the Almighty !! Nonsense and primitive beliefs as far as I'm concerned , but such beliefs are widespread amongst the so called British Asians , I therefore when mentioning the British I make a distinction between the native Brits and the British passport holders , vast difference , unfortunately not recognised by the our politicians simply because out politicians , bless their cotton socks , are too busy fiddling their expense claim forms , and if not doing this they are far too involved in their favourite past time of feathering ....
