I still feel that cantons in both the north and south will not act as a stepping stone towards unity and understanding each other, we will be back to them and us mentality. The best way to go about it is to have 2 sides and allow people to decide where they wish to reside under the administration of the state.

it will not drive people to think of themselves as "Greeks" or "Turks" as you suggest. Rather, people will identify themselves closer to their land as having a distictive identity within a society that is part of a greater whole.

furthermore the two parts that you describe is a recognition of a fait accompli, and a subordination to the interlocutary forces in our respective societies which support our subjugation through their mutually exclusive nationalistic desires, without which, it will promote an insecurity that has as a result the possibility of hostility.
