Wine drinkers

I see a few threads lately have talked about wine.

So, just wondered what is your favourite Cypriot wine?
There are so many on the shelves - so come on and share your experiences please.

I tend to drink white wine, but I do participate in the odd glass (or ten) of red on occasions

Cheers

I have a problem with wines. My palate can't differentiate between one and another. So I would have to vote for the very, very distinctive, sweet and heady komandaria.

We keep reading about Cypriot wine here in Greece but cannot taste it! I read that there are new vineyards and wineries in the "White Villages" around Omodos, one article described the winery of a young couple, both trained oinologists. Have you people tasted these new Cypriot wines and what do you think?

I think the Vasilikon white is always reliable. I have tried a couple of Rose wines recently which are very nice by Tzakkas and Pampela (don't know what the name of the wines are).

There are a few good reds but I'll have to get back to you with the names.

I second this! Tried a great commandaria in a pub in Limassol the other day. It was home made from Kalo Chorio of Agros and stored in a huge wooden barrel. Must try to get some for myself next time I'm in the area.

You think you cannot tell the difference between wines, but you can. You MUST be able to tell the difference between Koumandaria and a dry red. Well, the same happens when comparing dry reds to each other.

Nikitas, all I can tell is whether I like it or not and that's just about it. A £2 wine to me could taste the same as a £200 one. But when it comes to food, I have the gift to eat something and be able to tell you the exact ingredients. :)
