The Other Side .....

Postby Oracle » Sat Feb 23, 2008 10:09 pm

We all like to believe we can see the other side. That we are not biased, opinionated, beyond reason.

We alone stand, unfettered by prejudice, racism, hate.

Poppycock!

We are all the same ... bar in honesty!

What say you?

Dare you face the Truth?

Do you need to be loved so much, that you lie not only to the World, but to your inner self?

To thine own self be true ......

SUNSET and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

Crossing the Bar

Sweet and touching poem rawk.

I cannot resist depositing this antidote....

Aristotle stated:

“To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true”.

OK this one seems to have stumped discussion.

I realise it is a difficult thread ... but I would like some ideas on how easily people feel they can see both sides.

Do you believe you can see both sides?

I know it appears philosophical ... and it is the weekend, so brains are on pause.....

So I'll venture an opinion in the hope I trigger enough emotion to elicit an attack .... (my favourite response  ).

One should not make an effort to see the other side.

Reason being:
Unless you have a fixed aim, your mind will be without a purpose as an attempt to be everywhere, will get you nowhere.

O-clear,

I saw an interesting quote once:

"Only until you realize that you see things subjectively can you be objective."

No one can be perfectly objective.

Interesting thread.

Regarding your provocative question, we need people like you, people who are committed to only seeing the Turkish side, absolutely 100% of the Turkish side.

Well my stance is purely against those people that think they are objective ....

I consider this short sighted and I believe the worst offenders are those that try very hard to be objective ...

Believe me we have enough who portray 100% of the Turkish side to keep things colourful ...

Further food for thought (not that many are biting  ) .....

The Pythagoreans regarded good as certain and finite. So if you believe in something, you should accept that is the cause to uphold.

There are thousands of ways of missing the bulls eye, and only one of hitting it.

So whatever you believe ... you should fight for that and bugger the rest .

They have recently found the missing last verse of this poem rawk......

For those that stay
And those that fear the sea
Stay close the bar
And have a drink on me

I did not fully appreciate the following proverb. But now that I have decided it is fruitless to expend mental energy to see things from another's point of view ... the Golden Rule of Confucius now makes more sense:

Golden Rule of Confucius:
"What one does not wish for oneself, one ought not to do to anyone else; what one recognises as desirable for oneself, one ought to be willing to grant to others."

My take is this: Forget trying to see the other side ... just think about how you would feel should this be done to you ... and go with that.

Simple .... effortless! 8)

A recipe for harmony!

... were that one's goal in life

I think you are :confused by confucius my dear, Try comprehending this instead:

The Earl of Chesterfield (1694-1773) is quoted as having written.
'Do as you would be done by is the surest method that I know of pleasing.'

A negative modern view of this is 'If you don't like it, don't do it yourself.' :wink
