Now you're talking, the children and the elders must always come first, they should be our priority.
Kafenes,

Why bother to reply then on an animal welfare issue? Your priorities are obviosly elsewhere. I was going to suggest that because you live in Paphos, you might like to break with tradition and actually do something as a Cypriot by helping us at the new "PAWS" dog shelter. That would be too much to ask I guess as you are so busy with your other charitable work with children & the elderly and spending so so much time berating the foreigners that actually do something to help here, a problem that is basically generated by the Cypriots themselves. What about a word of appreciation instead of all the animosity.
Bucksboy, what upset me and made me get involved in this thread was comments that generalised Cypriots as animal haters and uncivilized, and non of that is true.

And a major reason you do not see strays in the USA or Canada is because EVERY incorporated town has an ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER whose job is to collect strays, cite owners for violations and put strays in a POUND.

After several days in the POUND animals are euthanised. Is that not the case in ALL advanced countries?

Tha is how it used to be in Cyprus under the British too.

Tell us the truth and stop this incessant moaning about strays and animal welfare. Some strays in other countries find homes, those that do not are put down. Hence no strays and no bad PR for these countries.

Now let ussee, I am a Cypriot and according to the above somewhat uncivilised as regards my animals.

Hmmm, I wonder which part of the treatment is cruel. My dog has her own armchair in the living room, a couch in the den, a reserved sunny spot in the yard for winter days and a place under the lemon tree for summer. She gets taken to the hair dressing joint four times a year, goes for walks when she wants and one of us must take her regardless of desire or mood. She has a supply of special food and a series of snacks for in between meals. When lettuce is cut for salads she always gets the heart, even though it is a Cypriot (human) delicacy. She drinks bottled water.

Damned uncivilised these Cypriots. Must start revising my priorities!

Do you have trouble understanding what "private" means ?... or do you just have time to waste with further inane posts.

You are clearly , a kind understanding human being with a genuine love of Gods creatures, You are just the type of person to set an example to the less caring in society.

Kafenes,

We all know that there are many Cypriots who love their pets etc. as well as any other nationalities but I am sorry, but I have to disagree and say, generally speaking Cypriots are not animal lovers and do not pay much attention to animal welfare. You only have to go around in the villages of the Paphos area to see it! Dogs in the summer with no shade or water. What is this if it's not animal cruelty? and why should we foreigners NOT protest about it. A small city the likes of Paphos NEEDS two main animal shelters. Why?
