"You are talking to the next president of CyR!"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

May be Christofias attends self help groups and he was doing positive visualisation and verbalisayion of what he wants, the power of manifestation can create the reasult when belived in.

This is identical to the arrogance that Mr Christofias had when he visited Australia to speak to the diaspora, and his replies were very arrogant and obviously indicates that this man is not fit to represent Cyprus on the international arena. He will cause more damage in diplomatic circles rather than solve the Cyprus issue.

Hi there Miltiades,

I am originally from Yeroskipou. However, I was born in Australia but I feel very attached to Cyprus. Every time I visit Cyprus, my spirit feels like it has arrived home.

I am watching the election telecast on RIKSAT with lots of interest. I hope my fellow Cypriots in Cyprus make the right decision. I have met Christofias and I personally am of the opinion that he just can not cut it. He is not a leader that will unite the masses and his character can be very arrogant especially if you do not agree with him or ask him a difficult question which puts him on the spot. Cyprus needs to build more bridges between our small nation and the EU and the rest of the world.

I thank you for your sincere welcome. :D

I agree entirely with you , I have posted a few times that I do not belong to any political party in Cyprus , I think having been away for almost 47 years its kind of impossible to formulate a preference , except of course when it comes to ideologies that are well known in the world.
I believe honestly that the AKEL party has achieved a phenomenal amount of benefits for the Cypriot worker and as a party has provided the worker with a defence mechanism to challenge the "greedy " and inconsiderate employer.
I draw the line however when the future of our island could be put on "risk"with a president who is not only a communist but also a known anti West and pro nations that are also anti West. A few years back he visited Cuba and listened excitedly to Fidel Castro applauding passionately when Castro referred to our common enemy the USA .
Becoming president of Cyprus will tarnish the image of Cyprus in the West , I'm certain that congratulatory messages will arrive from Cuba , Moldova , Venezuela , Iran , Mongolia and from every other American hater in the world. Great !!
I'm pleased that you are "connected " to our Cyprus , my two children were born in the UK and still have Cyprus in their hearts .

I know Yeroskipou of course who doesn't , regards to your parents from an old Paphiti and a proud Cypriot !!

Unfortunaltely, Cuba, Moldova, Iran, Mongolia etc are not the ones that will solve the Cyprus problem, so having good relations with these countries will only isolate us just like them. It will also turn us into the EU's little joke.

Cypriots must realise and accept that the countries that hold the key to a solution to the Cyprus problem are The USA, UK, EU nations and the UN. Other countries such as Australia, Canada and NZ can also play some diplomatic roles, as well as Russia. If Christofias is elected, Cyprus will well and truelly alienate itself from the countries that really do matter. It is these countries we need to have on our side if we stand any chance of solving the Cyprus problem.

Miltiades, it is good to meet a like minded Cypriot brother also in the diaspora. I wish your family all the best and good health.

Well, hate to drop in, but your fellow Paphites do not subscribe to your aspirations by a mile. If it were up to them, Papadopoulos would have won hands down from the first time of asking.

You two are beacons of hope, though ...

Bananiot,

I can only comment as to how I see things from a far. I am in Australia, so I do not know the political situation in Cyprus as someone that lives in Cyprus full time would.

As for my Paphites compatriots voting for T Pappadopoulos, they can vote for whoever they like. Last time I checked, Cyprus is a democratic nation with a vibrant economy. The way Paphites or anyone else votes is to be respected and is their democratic right.

Just as it is my right to voice my support for I Kassoulides as it is my personal opinion that he has the biggest chance of solving the Cyprus Issue, which I am sure the majority of the island sees as the most important issue.

Of course anyone can vote in any way he or she likes. This is not disputed, it is an unquestionable right in a democracy. It is also my right and everyone else's right to criticise behaviours, actions and inactions. I have the impression that many Paphians will stand against a solution to the Cyprob (even a "good" one) because they think that their economic development will suffer as a result of the solution. Of course, generalisations are not productive, thus I stand to eat my words if the majority of Paphians were to be anything like Miltiades.

Miltiades

I got lost round there this morning.

We took a trip to find the Sulphur springs and although we got close enough to get a definite whiff (although it could have been our dog in the back :? ) ..... I could not for the life of me find them.

We drove round and round the gorgeous hills, full of almond and cherry blossom-dusted trees and finely cropped vines, until we somehow ended up back in Polis ... :?

Any hints?
