Turkey was" invited " to invade by the extremists Cypriots along with the Greek irresponsible Junta . I think you misunderstand the point that I'm making and that is that our misfortunes ARE of our own making , regardless which function of the "political " scene was directly predominantly responsible.What I'm trying to say is that you can not blame AKEL when in a few months time recognition begins to become a reality , you must put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the Cypriot people. US - CHRISTOFIAS ELECTION

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza congratulated President-elect Demetris Christofias on his election victory, saying the US looks forward to working with him for a comprehensive Cyprus settlement.

In a statement on Sunday, Bryza said ``we congratulate President-elect Christofias on his election and the citizens of the Republic of Cyprus on a free and fair election.``
