How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

So you prefer my system ... but think Kikapu's is more achievable ... and if that were not to be achieved ... all has failed.

And if that were to be achieved... you still have not got what your heart desires ... so again you have failed.

Kik's system is fine for a country like US ... not Cyprus.

That’s not entirely true, because even though I’m not getting exactly what I want, If Kikapu’s system were to be achieved I believe that it could lead to a situation that would be very close to what my heart desires, So in essence I only fail once, which is always better than twice…

Treat each situation by its own merits. It's not one glove fits all ... as women we know we can knit that glove bigger or smaller....

So decide what you want on its merits ... not just on whether it's considered achievable ...

Otherwise we would never have made it to the moon

You know I wish I had your level of determination and hope Oracle. I try and hope for the Cyprus I want, but then I get a slap in the face by reality. You have to remember that our side has agreed to a solution based on a federation, so that’s most probably what we’re going to be getting anyway. And that being the case, my preferred form of federation is what Kikapu has put forward. Achieving anything other than a federation would have to mean some sort of a shift in world power, and I don’t see that happening any time soon.

Although, I must say, I never thought that I would ever get to see the North in my lifetime. To me it was always some sort of mythical place, almost like the Garden of Eden, but see I did, and as you mentioned man kind did eventually get to the moon, so maybe I should stick by my guns and hold out? Although hold out for how long? Even though currently I don’t have children, I am planning on having children in the future, and I would hope that I don’t have to pass on the legacy of ‘The Cyprus problem’ to them.

I suppose I would prefer being just happy with a solution (as opposed to absolutely thrilled) rather than despairing for a lifetime and not actually achieving anything, and with Kikapu’s system I think I could be…

Hi Natty,

Just wanted to thank you for supporting the kind of peace settlement I see most plausible for Cyprus at this point in time, which is a True Federation. It is a hell of a lot better than a disguised partition with the BBF that the Partitionist wants, so that at some point in the future they would want to declare Independence......again, and more likely to get it, because the BBF would make it a "Turkish State" or as Kifeas calls it "Virgin Birth", and more practical than a Unitary State the Nationalist wants, so that they can see themselves as the rulers of Cyprus, which the TC's will not welcome at all.. After all that has happened in the last 45 years, we need to give everyone a certain amount of "breathing space" to at least feel like they belong to a one particular State in the Union of Cyprus, and at the same time, be proud to be a Cypriot. With every ones Human, Democratic and Constitutional Rights are protected under the Federal Government, the North and South States will not be able to do anything that will undermine those rights. No community will own any one state as their own, but only be the majority, but not through a draconian measures with quotas, but with the freedom of movement and choice. What it is today, will remain for very long time for both the North and South as well as a separate entity for Nicosia as a separate district that includes both GC's and TC's.
"We don't want no stinking divided city anymore".

Hope you stick around for a while on the forum.

Why not come out and say what you do want exactly, if Kik's system is not your true heart's desire .... after all, we are all merely proposing.

Natty .... propose a plan please :D

You know I wish I had your level of determination and hope Oracle. I try and hope for the Cyprus I want, but then I get a slap in the face by reality.

The only reality is what we actually have ... we have not moved forward to any change ... so no one has been slapped .... yet.

There are no hard and fast rules .... we will achieve the best solution when we are actually in a position to initiate the changes necessary. New governments are in place in virtually all of the most relevant countries now. 8)

... I am planning on having children in the future, and I would hope that I don’t have to pass on the legacy of ‘The Cyprus problem’ to them.

Don't let any "problems" colour your outlook on that ... Go for it... the world will always have problems ... they should not deter you from your personal goals, Natty :D

We settled last time with the 1960's agreement ...... knowing it was not the right solution for Cyprus.

We know this time around.

Once bitten twice shy.

We cannot have such power sharing with a minority that has proved it does not want to integrate (blend), but wants to keep highlighting differences.

We have to find the solution to re-establish power to the wants of the majority from whichever side they come ..... Not GC, nor TC ... just the majority to rule.

RW .... with all due respect, and the fact that most of your points in answer to other posts are usually spot on...

As far as your proposal goes ... it is almost in direct opposition to my own.

Where I propose complete co-habitation of all communities living as one, blended, without reminders through Constitution of ethnic differences (i.e. two languages, two religions etc) .... you propose apartheid!

No can do ....

Cyprus is too small ... despite what Kikapu says ... for such divisive rules.

We have to move forward to a simple unified system.

A President of whatever ethnicity ... voted into power by the majority ... made up of whatever flavour of people.

Well that sounds ever so lovely, peaceful and Utopian Phoenix and i understand why that would be such a perfect solution for a fascist little woman like yourself.

Since the GC's are the overwhelming majority on this island, it will never be "whatever ethnicity" nor "whatever flavour", it will only be GREEK, like you and i don't know this

Thankfully this will NEVER happen, we will continue to exist on this island as TC's for as long as this island exists, and there is nothing you can do about it, NOTHING! ;)

My understanding of "blending" would be like mixing oil based colors that don't actually mix, forming multicolored swirls and cohabiting without affecting each others tone, as opposed to blending in order to get a whole new color that is apparently made up of the dominant color amongst the mix ;)

OP, if you read more carefully, then you will see that we completely agree in principal. my efforts are to end the apartheid which has fructified, with the opportunity to allow for cultural diversity, rather than the mono clonal policies which exist today.

each citizen of whatever origin will vote for a leader of whatever ethnic origin in exactly the same way in any of the three governing bodies which will exist. this will undoubtedly result in Parties who pander toward ethnic interests to be marginalised, allowing for better representation based on policy that views Cypriots as people who are unified because they have common interests.

two National Assemblies will allow for self sustenance by both Greek Cypriot culture and Turkish Cypriot culture in a manner where as a majority, they can demonstrate their respect and recognition for the rights of minorities, without a Republic of Cyprus being "Greek" because of the overwhelming demographics, at this time.

three governments although more expensive under the present conditions, will secure our identities regardless of the changing demographics foreseen futuristicly for the island with a population explosion that will engulf us when the EU matures and when there is peace in the Middle East and an end to Africa's travails, which may be very realisticly 12 million in about 200 years.

Oil based colours do mix together ... you just have to swirl long enough....

It's when you try to mix oil and water that you struggle ..... :?
