Famous line used by Lloyd Bentsen during the Vice Presidential debate against Dan Quayle in 1988, when Dan Quayle tried to link himself with JFK as not being too young to lead the country, in the event George Bush (daddy Bush) "kicked the bucket" before finishing his term(s) in office. Poor Dan Quayle froze like a popsicle at his podium just like a deer looking at the headlight of an oncoming car at night on a country road.

I don't know why I wrote the above. Perhaps once again, JFK was brought up by others in past Presidential elections.

Here are few points as to why Barack Obama reminds me of JFK.

Body language, words spoken with clarity, clearly, softly, passionately, soft laughter, soft and gentle smiles during speeches, appealing to the audience, coming across genuine and not as a smooth talking politician, does not show anger or spitefulness, quick with the responses, humour in his responses short of being sarcastic, intimidating and patronising. He stands tall and makes his presence known where ever he goes as well as earns respect from others.

These are some of my observations of the two men. Take away their skin colour, and you will find the same man standing there.

Lets see how he will govern, when elected as President of the United States.

Aah the great Greek/American years. Paul Tsongas nearly had him.

I've all but forgotten about Tsongas. However, it was another Greek American who was trying to win the 1988 Presidential race, Michael Dukakis, until he made a fool of himself by dressing up as a Tank Commander and driving around in a Tank.

It was a bit like Bush dressed as a pilot and landed on an Aircraft Carrier few months after invading Iraq with the
"Mission Accomplished" banner in the back ground.

Hello Gentlemen, that is Kikapu and DT,

Ah, yes, Sen. Bentsen's famous response to Vice President Quayle. I remember it well. How dare any Republican compare himself to the great Democrat of Camelot!

Anyway, Kikapou, Kennedy was indeed charming (after all, there are streets in Cyprus named after him) and so is Obama.

On another note, can either one of you answer the following?: What's more difficult than putting an African American or female American in the White House?

DT, perhaps you've all but forgotten o makaritis o Tsongas because he is indeed just that? His wife, Nikki, picked up where he left off when she was elected to Congress last October. Her contender was Jim Oganowski whose brother John was a pilot on one of the planes that was flown into the Twin Towers on 9/11.

Interestingly, both these presidential hopefuls of Greek descent are/were from Massachusetts, Dukakis having served as its Governer and Tsongas having represented it in both the House and Senate. Sadly, their kind is a dying breed among Greek Americans.

Regards, Gentlemen.

P.S. Bush's publicity shot above is far more pathetic than Dukakis's could have ever been.

Filitsa,

What's more difficult than putting an African American or female American in the White House?

Well, we have proven that we can elect to the White House who are Idiots, second rate movie actors, English not spoken correctly characters, I'm not a crook characters, I did not have sex with THAT women lying characters, cheater on their wives, playboys, I did not inhale druggies, being chocked by a pretzel drunk characters, selling the Lincoln bedroom to the highest paying donor characters, staining a perfectly nice size 14 blue dress in the Oval office characters, consulting astrologist for answers characters, peanut growers, disgraced from office characters and on and on and on, as long as they are white men who are GOD fearing Christians.

If they are Women, Black, Jew, Mormon, Muslim, Gay...............bad luck.

Since JFK broke the "Catholic religion barrier", perhaps we will see Obama break the "Black barrier". Someone else other than Hillary is going to have to break the "women barrier", because she has started to act like a Bitch lately.

Then again, a "Bitch" will fit nicely in with all those characters I mentioned in my first paragraph.

Can Hillary break the "Bitch" barrier.?

In any case, there is definitely going to be a very loud BOOMS, as soon as new "barriers" are broken. :D

I can't wait to hear the Double BOOMS when the "Gay barrier" is broken for the White House...............in year 5000.

("We"? I thought you were a Cypriot citizen. ???)

Unfair! You are more than quadrupling up on one of those characters, but I warn you: leave the peanut-farmer alone!

Seriously though, my answer was much simpler: putting in Greek Americans. Here we had two individuals of outstanding intelligence and upstanding character who, being sons of immigrants, toiled to live the "American dream." In contrast to what you wrote above, there's a sort of sad irony in this.

"Bitch"?! What's up with this?! When male politicians engage in mud-slinging, it's called "bashing the opponent." When the one-and-only female presidential hopeful in the history of the country does it, she's labled a "bitch" ... and this coming from a man (you are a man, aren't you?)! Yup, the old double-standard is alive an well.

I have a ABC citizenship's Filitsa, and I do not mean the ABC islands in the Caribbean.

They are, American, British and Cypriot.

To most Americans, "American Dream" is to buy a House and not become the President of the United States. Dukakis was too liberal and Tsongas lost to Bill Clinton during the Democratic Primaries in 1992. I don't think them being from a Greek Heritage had anything to do with it.

Bill Clinton was able to talk anyone and everyone's ears off until they threw in the towel..

On my list of past president to the White House, I have forgotten to mention Slave owners also.

I was not condemning her for being "bitchy" at all, but she wanted to run a "clean" campaign until she realise that
"nice guys finish last".

I still think Obama will keep his cool and not resort to being a "bastard" towards Hillary, although she would love for him to take the "low road".

I am a man and Hillary is my second choice after Obama for the presidency.

Take heart in that a "Jonestown" character may soon be added to the list...

To have achieved the "American Dream" is to live a comfortable lifestyle, which includes but is not limited to owning your home, affording your children a college education, and saving for a "rainy day." Both Dukakis and Tongas's immigrant parents worked hard to achieve the "American Dream" and afford their children a better life. In turn, both Dukakis and Tsongas worked hard to honor their parents in this regard.

The question in my earlier post was actually a joke. I agree, their inability to be elected to the Presidency has little to do with being Greek American. My point however, is that there's a sad irony that exists in this same inability to be elected when considering their backgrounds and characters as compared to the privileged lives and lack of character displayed by most of our Presidents in the past 20 years.
