Cycle lanes in Cyprus.

Due to the population boom in Cyprus the Government are now looking at cycle lanes. This should induce fatal injury to the majority of cyclists and will keep check on further population increases.

Are they having a laugh,it's bad enough driving a car or motor bike.

I thought the new walkway along the seafront in Limassol included a cycle path but I was wrong.
It was the express lane for Pizza Hut maniacs and the other fast food delivery lunatics.
At least the food gets to us on time and still relatively warm never mind the pedestrians and cyclists who dive onto the beach to avoid them.
same thing with what i thought was a pedestrian crossing, no just a shortcut across the lights

There was an oped in Politis newspaper not so long ago castigating the inclusion of bicycles in the overal transport scheme. One of the reasons given by the writer was the anti aesthetic sweat the rider builds up during warm months.

Well, there is always the choice of an electric bike for use in the summer, that way you get the advantages of quiet, lightweight, eco friendly transport and no sweat. And an electric bike could feed the local egotripping needs by becoming a status symbol.

In mountanious Innsburck in Austria they have bicycle lanes and people respect them and they ride bikes in all kinds of weather. But god help you if are caught with a motorised vehicle on a bike lane. Someone actually polices the lanes and does something if there is a violation. The notion that police have a job to do seems to escape Cypriots sometimes (Greeks too, our local bike lane is a parking spot).

As you all understand I am a cyclist. Funny thing is I do it because it reminds me of my childhood in Famagusta when everyone, from age 3 to 93, owned and used a bike. Times have changed!
