Lifelong hunter her and proud of it. ALso professionally involved in hunter education in Greece and have been for decades.

I have designed shotguns and study them in depth. I sometimes wish someone would come along and build some other object of daily use, ie a car, with the same integrity and care that shotguns are built. Then the general public would understand the meaning of the word quality.

My favorite quarry here in Greece is wild rabbit, not hare, they are different animals, which we hunt on islands. And wood pigeon if and when I bump into them. In Greece it is illegal to drive game, except for wild boar, so hunting is always a matter of pursuit with pointing or tracking dogs, or still hunting.

Contrary to the doomsayers, game is not diminishing, in fact some species like the wild boar are increasing beyond the capability of hunters to keep numbers stable. When I arrived in Greece in 1976 wile boar range extended south to the Trikala region, now they can be seen up to the Attika region, three hundred kilometers further south and we reintroduced them in the Peloponnese. One of my proudest deeds that, I had a hand in it. Now the Peloponnese yields about 800 boar a year.

I wish we would hunt with rifles. I want to stalk a roebuck with a good rifle some day. Or bag me a rabbit with an air rifle. But the law is the law so if I do it it will be in some other country.

GR,

I kill more animals with each breath than I will ever do with my gun. Doctor friends assure me that each breath kills millions if not billions of microorganisms through autonomous action of our immune system. Microbes have rights too you know!

And also there is our daily bread. All those cute little yeasties! What right do we have to burn them in the oven!

I am sure if us hunting and fishing folk here invited you to a dinner of grilled sfyrida or wild boar stifado you would not refuse. And we will have wine too of course, must kill some billions of yeast in the wine too, suffocate them in alcohol! Poor little things!

We have alot in common Nakitas. My father in law was a Gunmaker,I am a dealer.I hunt all year round.I recently had some time in Poland hunting.
I have a great love for English shotguns, and I am a fan of Le Page,an old French gunmaker.
My other passion is wood, the finest French walnut...the only wood for a fine shotgun.

Purdey,

Glad to see a refined shotgun afficionado here.

For years I have been fantasizing of a 16 bore Dickson with side pedal. No engraving or fancy wood, no automatic ejectors, just that superb rounded form would be enough for me.

I was impressed by Gought Thomas' description of how a boclock could be made along the lines of the Dickson and in 1982 went to Gardone and had one built. It is not as round as I want, but still is a good looking gun. Funny thing is that despite my love of the clasic sxs my hand always reaches for the Citori 20 bore.

Now one for all fishing folk here.

I have tried several times to fish. But never managed to catch anything worth keeping. I caught three fish on separate occasions but they were tiny and I returned them to the water.

How can I catch a fish worth eating while fishing from the shore with my rod and reel? What is a good fishing season and what bait should I use to catch something like a bream? In Greece May is closed to amateur fishing, all other months are OK. But are there best seasons for each species?

Are you my twin brother? Arnie and de Vito come to mind. I love my birds too. Five years ago there were hardly any Tits around. Now they have made my garden their home.
