Sorry to intrude on your thread K, but reading this lead me to thinking as to what Greek name I would like to have now that I reside in Cyprus. I love the nickname 'Skevi' so I think I would opt for Paraskevi! Then again I prefer the Greek Eleni to Helen and also Aphrodite for obvious reasons so now I am not so sure! :?

What name would you chose for yourselves FF? If you are happy with the one you were given at birth, that is great, if not, please share your thoughts

Just realised how rude this sounds! No offence to any Helen's out there. It really is a lovely name, but since I heard Eleni - well it has my vote

Back to my village. We had a neighbour called 'Oranos'. I thought it sounded so musical and astral. I soon changed my mind when I came to the UK and some blithering idiots constantly mis-pronouncing it.

Greek radio presenter, son of a Cypriot mother, has two uncles, Kiki and Koko. Hearing his gradnmogther shout to them for lunch was a gas! He said so on his show, so dont blame me.

Womens names that please my ear- Eleftheria (Liberty), Anastasia (Resurrection), Dimitra (the Goddess of feritlity), Zoe (Life), Olga, Agne, as long as they are used as full names and not shortened to ridiculous two syllable Tasa, or Sasa, or Mimi or (Lord forbid) Coula and Voula.
