Online shopping and taxes

Postby Spetz » Tue Feb 19, 2008 8:36 pm

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone does any online shopping, and if so, are there any duty taxes for when the goods enter Cyprus?

Anyone know any details?
Thanks

Hi,

I'm told on electronics you only pay the VAT and nothing else.

Just VAT from the EU.

If it is from the ‘States it is ‘some-number-they-made-up-at-the-time’ percent duty then VAT.

Once I have ordered online from an EU country thats it. No extra costs when it gets here or anything. I ordered an item from America from Ebay and it had to go to the central post office (is normally in the mail box, or at the local post office). Was an electronic item that was declared as $100 on the package. Think I paid about 17 Euros to get that. Then again how often is an item not available from within the EU? This was only the 2nd item I ever ordered from the US, and was only because you literally cannot get it anywhere in the EU. First item was because of the almost criminal prices we get ripped off for certain things in the UK. No way I was paying £450 for a software item I could get the exact same thing from the US for about £200 (with about £30 of taxes).

Cheers

So...
No tax from the EU or gotta pay VAT?
VAT is what like a goods and services tax?? 15%?

Is there a minimum cost before the tax is slapped on? ie, if the item is 1 euro, will they still charge you VAT or it gotta be over X amount?
And what if the package is wrapped like a present?

If something is marked as a ‘gift’ then no duty or VAT are payable.

However, that is illegal.

And if it is marked as online shopping, what is the % of tax?
