Why the f*** must everything be so difficult here!

You don't know 'til you get to the Post Office and they make some number up...

Generally speaking it is better to buy from the UK.

This truly is beyond ridiculous.
And this country is in the EU and is classed as "developed"... whatever...

Spetc, do not vex!

All EU countries tax goods arriving from outside EU borders. Tha tarrif is not arbitrary it is written down in the WTO tarrif book and can be determined ahead of ordering. On top of the import duty comes VAT.

Buying within the EU does not attract either taxation or VAT. Most large American firms know this and they have a branch somewhere in the EU. For instance, Amazon has Amazon.co.uk. Anything ordered from there will comt to you with no further charges. The only time you pay VAT is if the seller does not charge it and write it on his invoice of the goods, something very unlikely.

I have been buying on line for years, including Ebay items and never had a problem.

Relax!

So what do you want to order? Some things have no tax at all. I order books from Amazon USA and I never paid import tax or VAT. When I ordered a camcorder from USA I only had to pay VAT 15%. But some other things you also pay import tax.

Just wondering if anyone does any online shopping, and if so, are there any duty taxes for when the goods enter Cyprus?

Anyone know any details?
Thanks

Countries outside EU pay tax, however if your spending amount is less than I think $50 there is no tax. I recently purchased something which had tax associated with it, I payed around 40 euros on a 170 pounds item, the silly thing was 50 of that 170 pounds was delivery. Kinda sucks.

Ok guys for future reference...
I got my package today. I paid 19 Euros tax. If it had been sent from within the EU then there would be no tax to speak of.
Also, how they taxed me:
They asked for a printed reciept (e-reciept basically) which I didn't have/bring and basically they then asked me how much I paid for it including shipping.
I paid 200USD but I told them it was $120 USD and paid 19euro
I would have said less but they opened up my package looking for a reciept inside so I didn't want to go overboard and say like 50USD or something

My only american purchase had the price on the front of the package. They asked if this was correct and I said yes. That was it. I didn't actually remember at the time so just said yes, but was actually about three times the amount on the package. Ho hum...

Cheers
