Lebanon's Daily Star on Cyprus

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby -mikkie2- » Tue Feb 19, 2008 7:01 pm

"The ICC is as pro-Turkish as it can get. Of course it is Turkish propaganda full of lies. The Cypriots have been victims of foreign invadors who continue to occupy parts of our island, and this "Pope" is trying to defend the invadors of our island, and blame the Cypriots because they wanted their freedom on their own island!!"

Piratis. You are missing the point. This is an INFLUENTIAL think tank. What they say is taken notice of. Its up to us turn these impressions around and we can only do this if we have friends in the right circles. Papadopoulos in the last 5 years has lost us many friends unfortunately which makes our tiny voice even fainter. This is what we need to turn around so that people like Pope start to see the true picture.

I don't just say it is untrue propaganda crap, I also gave to you evidence why it is.

This person is trying to blame the problems of Cyprus on Cypriots themselves!! No my friend. The problems of Cyprus are due to foreign invadors coming to our island with their troops and forcefully imposing their will on us, and we have every right to fight for the freedom of our island, for democracy and for our self-determination.

Again, you have missed the point!

It matters not 1 bit what I think and you trying to convince me that it is pro-Turkish. I actually agree with you that it is to an extent.

What matters is if we (meaning our politicians) can put forward our arguments convinsingly so that people such as Pope can change their views. Thats the point I am trying to put across. To just dismiss what he says is simply being foolish because the group he represents, whether we like it or not, is listened to and taken notice of.

What????????? You are so fortunate that not everybody is able to see the "true picture" hence you getting away with murder. Pope is one of a handful of influential people that has seen the "true picture", once the numbers increase then you are really in trouble.

This is not about "impressions" and "friendship" mikkie. This is about interests.

In order to make those people like us what we would have to do is to be the "good boys" and do whatever the AngloAmericans want us to do. Thats what you want? Just say "yes yes yes our masters - divide our country officially, give to Turks one third of it, dissolve democracy do whatever you want, we agree"?

My God, you are as stubborn as an ass. Stop living in denial and just accept the fact that this mans report has a lot of substance and both communities need to take note and act accordingly for the benefit of the island. Is this not what the ultimate message on the report is?

Yeah right!

The true picture is more than what Mr Pope espouses in his writings and its ones you conveniently ignore also. For example, the Turkish army did unspeakable things during the invasion which far far outwheighed the amatour antics (in comparison) of a bunch of GC lunatics between 63 and 67. The history of Cyprus is complicated and you putting the balme on the 'true picture' in Cyprus solely on the GC's shows ineptitude, one sidedness and without ability to compromise and accept a solution that is to the benefit of all Cypriots.

This is nonsense Piratis. If we carry on blaming everyone under the sun for our problems then we are doomed! The art of diplomacy and mastering it is everything in this world and unfortunately no Cypriot politician so far has shown even rudimetary diplomatic skills. I hope that people like Kasoulides and Marcos Kyprianou who have had extensive dealings and experience in Europe will have learned the lessons needed for Cyprus to move forward.

You certainly cannot accuse me or my community of the above. You are seeing things from your own perspective and you are clearly blinkered.

If you had accused your EOKA member, an ex terrorist of a President of the same then it would have made more sense. Your own community has confirmed this by kicking him out of office.

Please guys its high time you took these blinker off and see the realities of the situation for what it really is.

Yeah, right. I think it is a complete joke that you think that I am blinkered! I am trying to see things from all perspectives and trying to come to logical conclusions on the way to move forward. One has to accept their own wrongs before moving on. Have you accepted that your community has its shere of responsibility for how Cyprus has ended up?
