These ARE the enemies of Cyprus.

believe me, flags are the least of our problems. When the whole election hype dies down the flags will also.

From the information I have so far:

DIKO will announce shortly the co-operation with Kasoulides.
Kyprianou family will announce their support to Kasoulides.
Archbishop will do the same.

...I hope I'm correct.

You know about Tapap's red lines I suppose...All Turkish troops out of Cyprus,NO power of guarantee etc etc...

What colour do you think Kassoulidis would see when looking at Tpapa's red lines????

Looking at the situation from a distance, I too was surprised at the sea of Greek flags at the Kasoulides victory rally. There is a message in that demonstration and it is not a hopeful one. At the very least it shows a lack of respect for the procedure itself- the election process of an INDEPENDENT nation state. For some reason the phrase "double union" keeps popping up in my thoughts.

As for AKEL being a hard line communist party etc, let us remember that AKEL has been in the fore of Cyprus politics since day one, it has always been the largest Cypriot party and it did not sink us into Soviet style communism at any point. Whatever little social and welfare systems we have in Cyprus we owe it to AKEL and its participation in past governments.

No party has ever governed Cyprus on its own. The system encourages multi party governments and this has been the practice in the past. It will be the way in the future. The government will have to include DEKO and EDEK in a deal made before Sunday.

I am not now and have never in the past been a communist (just in case Mr McCarthy's ghost is following my posts!!!) but one thing I know for sure is that Christofias is dead against any form of double union and he will not abandon the RoC.
