A plea to everyone...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Nikitas » Mon Feb 18, 2008 3:08 pm

"Cyprus now has a historic opportunity to leave the past behind and look forward to a better future as a European state."

So are we going to see an application of the EU legal order in ALL of Cyprus soon? How soon?

Do not hold your breath anyone.

The same negative mind-set....

Postby cymart » Mon Feb 18, 2008 4:47 pm

We all know the various aspects of the problem and have been banging on about them for years but this kind of approach has also been proven to be a viscious circle leading us all nowhere! So why not try,as both the now standing Presidential candidates are suggesting,to show the Turkish Cypriots that we really mean business and want peace with them, like they did when they demonstrated in 2003 until Denktash opened the border?(that period was another of Papad's colossal mis-judgments but as I said, that's in the past)One way would be for Greek-Cypriots to start going across en masse again (as they are already allowed to do anyway if they want to),and talk to ordinary people and show them they want to get along with them.Building up such confidence will pressurise Turkey to get it's finger out and sit down and find a decent compromise with us and you can be sure the international community will be watching and waiting to help the process along, just as they have already suggested to both sides anyway......
If it fails nobody will be any worse off than they are now,but why even think it could fail instead of going for it with a positive attitude???

Cymart. You speak sence mate. The problem is people like Oracle probably an EOKA supporter want Turks out of Cyprus. They dont seem to understand Turkey will never leave until the TC's have their own state either as the Annan plan envisaged or by agreed partition.

I'm with you 100% but other I feel will just call you an idiot.

I think the omens are not very good, unless we solve the problem in 2008. Otherwise, the UN will solve it for us, just like they did in Kosovo where the international community had patience for only 11 or so years. Of course the solution will be partition in our case too.

Our only hope is to get a negotiation process going in March after we convince the Turkish Cypriots that we mean business this time round. Realistically, the solution cannot be anything different from the Annan Plan but I am sure certain modifications for the better can be negotiated.

Right, so you’ve just wasted a couple of years posting your anti-Papadopoulos propaganda just so that you can now conclude that the solution is partition?

Was this the great plan you had in mind for Cyprus and therefore annoyed that TP was getting in your way?

TP's unrealistic approach was going to lead to partition eventually, because soon or later no one will give a shit about what you think, and start focusing on us. That is one solution!

So you have to hurry up and come up with a plan to unite the island IF you don't want to end up with another Kosovo. This is another solution!

Are you just plain thick or do you only pretend to be when the facts don't suit you?
