Filitsa, since you seem to have voted for Kasoulides, can you perhaps tell us what Kasoulides doesn't like from the Anal plan and would like to see them changed? Are there any elements of the Anal plan that he doesn't like, or is he going to bring it back to us as it is, in order to vote for it this time? Do you happen to know?
Kifeas, if I could vote in Cyprus's elections, I would indeed vote for Kassoulides. Because you know as well as I do what Kassoulides's position is on the "Anan Plan," participating in your examination of my knowledge would bestow undue dignity on your disingenuous prank.
No Filitsa, I do not know what his possition is on the A-plan! All I know is that in page 7 of his pre-election program, he made the following statement: "“Nevertheless, let there be no mistake about it: the people were called upon to decide and they did, the Anan plan cannot and will not return. Neither as it was, nor with cosmetic changes.”
Are you saying that what he has claimed was not true and that he indeed aims at bringing back the A-plan as it is or with some cosmetic changes? If you would have voted for him, as you said, then you must be able to know that as well, otherwise, don't tell me you would have voted for someone that you do not know what he stands for! Same question extents to DT and all those that said they voted for him!
Actually Kifeas, it was Tassos who first said that you cannot kill off the AP. He said the Annan Plan (Anal plan sounds good as well, we'll agree there) was an amalgamation of all other plans before and the next plan will include some sort of modification of the AP as well. Thats what Tassos was willing and expected to bring back. (BBC interview, the program was HardTalk)
Kassoulides view is to first figure out what sort of solution we want first of all. Decide on a cross party level what these famous red lines of ours really are and then go after it.
To be honest with you I would consier a partnership with Deko as an ideal combination in this govt. The Pro-EU energetic Kassoulides can rebuild relations with our partners while the hardline stance of DEKO can serve as a counter balance during the negotiations. A sort of good cop bad cop situation.
The other thing I do not understand here is this apparent denial some people have of the democratic process.
67% of the population voted against Tassos and brainwashed little heads like pantheman refuse to accept this fact.
I heard a Deko mp today on the radio say how the electorate betrayed this hero. I'm not gonna argue about whether he was a hero or a zero but I am surprised at the contining arrogance of these people who are pissed off with us because we did not vote for the man they explicitly told us to!!
DT. dear .... I would never deem to contradict you ... but, I can't bite my tongue any longer!
A vote
for someone is not necessarily a vote
against the others ....
I know babe but it gives such a better impact when you put it this way. As long as no one points it out that is
But seriously, for reasons that would piss off Piratis, I think a large element of this was a vote against Papadopoulos. Rightly or wrongly the 2 candidates have mirrored each other when it comes to the cyprus problem throughout the campaign, leaving Papadopoulos with a recognisably diferent proposition..(8th July, 8th July, 8th July((not that the others provided much more clarity)).
I voted against him because I want to see something happen. If its a bad option then i want the chance to vote it down, but what I can't stand anymore is the comfort of knowing that nothingmuch will happen in the next 5 years.
The plan by Tpap was to insist on the 8th July which Turkey agreed until they finally come out with it and say we're officially going back on our word now. The result of that would be some criticism from the international community and Turkey would go back to looking a little guiltier. BUT WHAT WOULD THAT ACCOMPLISH? Apart frm some short term relief that Turkey is shown to be the negative one again.
I want this country to take full benefit of its EU membership, I want to stop wondering why the last time a foreign leader visited Nicosia was because the EU made him do it. I want to take away all excuses from Turkey and remind the world that there's 40,000 troops here holding our land. I want Talat to panic because next to these guys he can't lie to the world that he's the positive one. I want negotiations to start....If we can solve it then lets do it now.
If we can't then I'll gladly carry on fighting against any recognition, trade or tourism the pseudo state will try for.
I also want a leader who knows that using a veto in the EU does not mean blowing your hand. It means that the veto will remain there until certain conditions are satisfied. Turkey has coasted through its entire EU process so far with little interruption from our part.
Now the majority of you may put up a decent argument when discussing withsome of our more "liberal" members on this forum, but I don't buy this crap.
Tpap could have played our EU card in much more effective manner than he did. However, thinking about it now, he was right for fearing the veto because he had no diplomancy to back it up with our allies. We had GEORGE LILLIKAS as foreign minister for gods sake!!!!! I know the man personally and please be sure when i tell you that his motives have never been for the good of this island (unlike his boss.) And he is definitely not the man to be able to make deals with any of the Big EU countries...make alliances with the new members....start cooperating with the Med countries....etc. Any of these groups could have provided us with the support we need to become a productive member of this union. We chose the lone road, its time to change now.
