Are you SURE you want to go back to when the first seeds of destruction were sown?

“Throughout the period of Venetian rule, Ottoman Turks raided and attacked at will. In 1489, the first year of Venetian control, Turks attacked the Karpas Peninsula, pillaging and taking captives to be sold into slavery. In 1539 the Turkish fleet attacked and destroyed Limassol. Fearing the ever-expanding Ottoman Empire, the Venetians had fortified Famagusta, Nicosia, and Kyrenia, but most other cities were easy prey.

In the summer of 1570, the Turks struck again, but this time with a full-scale invasion rather than a raid. About 60,000 troops, including cavalry and artillery, under the command of Lala Mustafa Pasha landed unopposed near Limassol on July 2, 1570, and laid siege to Nicosia. In an orgy of victory on the day that the city fell--September 9, 1570--20,000 Nicosians were put to death, and every church, public building, and palace was looted. Word of the massacre spread, and a few days later Mustafa took Kyrenia without having to fire a shot. Famagusta, however, resisted and put up a heroic defense that lasted from September 1570 until August 1571.”

Didn't Piratis put a copywright on the above ?

If this is the best you can come up with you might want to consider keeping a low profile. Btw, I don't borrow other people's work...

But some would say that after the initial invading there were " four centuries of peaceful coexistence in mixed villages, towns and places of work " ?

and the choice was?

Don't go as far back as you want in order to support your lame propaganda argument which indirectly means we are the real problem here, grow the fuck up loser!

I simply corrected your goumbaro who claimed... "re-read your history" and I'm sure he was referring to the Cypro-Turkish period (1500...current).

Was that not when FIRST contact was made with Turks?

Or alternatively you can see it as four centuries in limbo where nothing advanced and all areas under Pax Ottomana were cut off from what was going on in the rest of Europe, that little thing called Renaissance.

Under Venetian rule of Greek areas there was El Greco and Vincenzo Cornaro, who were the inspired artists and writers who flourished under the Ottomans?

Hundreds of years ago, empires expanded. Period.
It just seems convenient to use the Ottomans as the starting point in history, whereas we were really talking about the destruction of the RoC.

The RoC with the help of EU, will remove all Turkish influence from Cyprus, once and for all ...... so that we are never put in the vulnerable position of having Turkey as a guarantor again.

Turkey has shown by its actions it should not be trusted.

Once bitten twice shy ....

Because if the GCs do not trust Turkey,TCs will not trust the GCs...If they don't trust the GCs they will insist that Turkish troops stay in Cyprus...Hence the status quo will continue, which suits Turkey down to the ground...

Go ahead, oracle, you are making Turkey's day!

Hang on a minute...you brought up the peacefull coexistance during the ottoman empire's peacefull expansion...and I asked what was the choice?...and you come up with the above lame excuse?

the british were an empire, but I think you will find it was happier times for the Cypriots when comparing...unless of cource you disagree with this too...

As I said ... we do not have to capitulate and "trust" our captors.

We have a mighty force in the EU with us now ... and Turkey will have to start doing as it is told ...

So enjoy your "day"
