results of the presidential election?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby BirKibrisli » Tue Feb 19, 2008 8:33 am

If I was the new President, the first thing I would do is to establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and invite Talat and the TCs to send their representatives,in a new spirit of openness, honesty, and integrity...

This will go a long way towards establishing the necessary trust, empathy and compassion so badly needed between the two communities...

And who knows soon we might all be talking about a new beginning,a return to the ROC established in 1960,as a stepping stone to a more practical, more Cypriot nationalist and less ethnic oriented unified state run by Cypriots for Cypriots... 8) 8)

Why ask the GCs to trust Turkey :? ... something no other nation would do .... when they have destroyed the RoC at the first lame-excuse opportunity.

The RoC with the help of EU, will remove all Turkish influence from Cyprus, once and for all ...... so that we are never put in the vulnerable position of having Turkey as a guarantor again.

Turkey has shown by its actions it should not be trusted.

Once bitten twice shy ....

Turkey is here because you also have shown your true colors, we should never be put into a position where we HAVE to trust you either, why should we?

Same old story.....I think you'll need to re-read your history to see when the first seeds of destruction were sown. And according to you (yet again), there is no place in Cyprus, our homeland, for the TC's. :(

No doubt you'll come up with your own version of what you have written, but leopard and spots come to mind !

As much as I would love this to happen, I just cannot see (either side) opening up and laying all their 'sordid secrets' on the table.

My understanding with a Truth and Reconciliation Commission is that individuals volunteer to come forward, and my view is that those that come forward will be the ones who suffered, rather than the perpetuators themselves.

Are you SURE you want to go back to when the first seeds of destruction were sown?

“Throughout the period of Venetian rule, Ottoman Turks raided and attacked at will. In 1489, the first year of Venetian control, Turks attacked the Karpas Peninsula, pillaging and taking captives to be sold into slavery. In 1539 the Turkish fleet attacked and destroyed Limassol. Fearing the ever-expanding Ottoman Empire, the Venetians had fortified Famagusta, Nicosia, and Kyrenia, but most other cities were easy prey.

In the summer of 1570, the Turks struck again, but this time with a full-scale invasion rather than a raid. About 60,000 troops, including cavalry and artillery, under the command of Lala Mustafa Pasha landed unopposed near Limassol on July 2, 1570, and laid siege to Nicosia. In an orgy of victory on the day that the city fell--September 9, 1570--20,000 Nicosians were put to death, and every church, public building, and palace was looted. Word of the massacre spread, and a few days later Mustafa took Kyrenia without having to fire a shot. Famagusta, however, resisted and put up a heroic defense that lasted from September 1570 until August 1571.”

If this is the best you can come up with you might want to consider keeping a low profile. Btw, I don't borrow other people's work...

Oh please, if you want to find the origin of hate on this island, you have to go WAY back than 1500s, and not only in Cyprus either.

Don't go as far back as you want in order to support your lame propaganda argument which indirectly means we are the real problem here, grow the fuck up loser!

But some would say that after the initial invading there were " four centuries of peaceful coexistence in mixed villages, towns and places of work " ?
