results of the presidential election?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby repulsewarrior » Mon Feb 18, 2008 6:21 pm

...the day before the election, Talat stressed again that a solution is to be found only with the UN, and not the EU, which is actually hopeful,... given European action in Serbia, ignoring International Protocol and the danger of Unilateral Declarations of Independance.

Talat had also said regarding the EU that its legal order favors the GCs, therefore a solution must be sought outside the EU. Sounds like heads I win tails you lose type of thing. Like always, the TCs claim a special status, not under the rules that apply to all, but a special situation that will favor them even if it goes against all known norms and principles.

Therefore he said no to partition.

It is time for Cypriots themselves to write their own constitution. Not for Turks and British doing it. Cyprus needs to be freed, and we will continue fighting for justice.

...yet it was Denktash that is sited for unreasonable delay, by every SG the UN has had for over thirty years.

The reality is that the Annan Plan sucks, pardon my expression but there is absolutely nothing in it to be proud of. It starts nothing new, it is unclear, it leaves much open ended, and though it may be an agreement to end discord, it does not offer closure to the suffering, or Humanity any betterment (hope, that there is in our efforts, courage, for change). It does not have vision.

Talat clearly will be in the spotlight soon.

If Christofias wins, his efforts will revolve around a nature where the Government will place the efforts directly on Cypriots themselves, who if Greek in origin will require Turkish Cypriots to have the humility and the Grace to embrace them in return. Within a Socialistic framework, it requires the direct action of the people to overcome their own prejudice. It is fraught with the danger of requiring an array of these participants to have a leap of faith.

I believe that Kassoulides has the intention to involve the International Spheres in his negociation. Which in my opinion is troubling as well because our isolation from each other will not be immediately improved. Also, it relies on a system of government (EU) which has yet to define itself, without a history, being at its advent as well. It is the course most in line with the Diplomatic Process of today.
