A TRUE SETTLER STORY (APPARENTLY)....

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

A TRUE SETTLER STORY (APPARENTLY)....

Postby BirKibrisli » Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:19 pm

I have just read this in the online edition of AFRIKA,in Erol Atabek's column...A true story taken from a book of memoirs by Faruk Nazif Ozok, a Turkish government minister from Trabzon...In 1975 the then Employment Minister,Ali Riza Uzuner, is in Trabzon personally putting some of his own selection of settlers onto a bus to be taken (eventually) to Cyprus...He notices an older, bearded man he knows struggling to get on to the bus with something heavy under his arm, wrapped in a piece of cloth...He rushes to the old man's aid...Feeling how heavy the object is he asks the older man what it is... "Don't tell anyone," whispers the older man,"it is my father's tomb stone..." Absolutely bewildered the Minister asks the man why is he taking it to Cyprus... "Don't be stupid,Ali Riza!",says the man. "If they tell us to get out of Cyprus one day,I will tell them my father is buried there. And this is the proof!!!"

The irony is,after 34 years that man is most likely buried in the North. And his children have his tomb stone plus their grandfather's to claim their rightful place among Cypriots! I wonder if the 3 GC gentlemen running for President in the ROC today know what they will have to deal with some day soon, if they want to solve our little Cyprus problem... :( :( :(

Racist ?

Of all the racist things that are written on this board DAILY, you are only offended by my signature ?

My nene had good reason to make such comments.

Iki parlalik adam bana racist cagirir...asil rezillik !

I also find your sig very racist and offensive, what does it serve ?

P.S How did `your` 60 year migration celebration go in Melbourne today, or was it a day of mourning for you ?

gabira
If your signature was in English (which is the language of this forum) and it was understood by the admin,it would have most probably been removed long before any one of us Turkish speaking Cypriots responded to it..
I agree, there are racist remarks posted everyday from both sides but i also believe these get their share of response from any decent member...Posting a racist remark is one thing, insulting a whole nation in your signature (in a language they wouldn't understand) is another..

Pray tell me,what is racist about "long Live The True Republic of Cyprus"!

It sums up my dream of reunification.

Now I challenge you to translate your signature into English, and tell us all how it is not racist...Like grandma like grandson by the look of it!!!
