elections in Britain

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

diaxronika = timeless (i think)

also how bout Cypriots first worry about removing prejudices between each other (something that's become apparent in this forum as well) before they remove prejudices against the common enemy (UK).

A fair point. As you probably know prejudices are deep rooted and they are not easy to be got rid off. I propose we make a start by not blaming our misfortunes on others (usually the foreigners) but by looking at our own role in a responsible manner, our mistakes and shortcomings. I think this will be a step in the right direction.

Diaxronika: probably there isn't one english word to describe it properly.

I do not believe England is pro turkish or pro greek.

England is pro England.

There is no "conspiracy theory". Things are crystal clear: The British along with the Americans need Turkey and they have Turkey as one of their closest allies. The British also need their bases in Cyprus, and they will do what is needed to secure them.

The ones that can not see these so clear things are Bananidiots.

So Bananiot, if this world is too complex for you, why do you bother? Try ping-pong instead.

Bananiot, its no conspiracy theory, its common knowledge. If it was possible, I would love to compile a list of the short sited comments Tony Blair has made regarding the Cyprus issue...then you'll get your local Labour MP sending you a XPISTOS ANESTI easter card, reminding you that Labour is the best votes for the Greek Cypriots. Its a joke.

I wanna know what Britian has done for Cyprus that eclipses turning the two major Cypriot communities against eachother and holding onto land on Cyprus, virtually rent free...?

It’s so disheartening listening to people talk about these great enemies of ours. We label England and the USA as our worse enemies, then, we reckon that the UN and the EU are working secretly for our downfall and at times we even accuse Greece for that. Not to mention Turkey of course; now, that is a sure enemy, a life long enemy. So, if any country in the world, no matter how small or big it is, had to stand against all these people, would it stand a chance to survive? Of course not! But, we, the scam of the earth (just take a look at our society where everyone steals from each other and corruption is hitting new heights day by day) are facing, with immense courage, the modern imperialists and march on to a glorious future.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that the US and Britain have conspired against Cyprus. In my opinion that is just plain paranoia. However, what is evident is that Turkey at the moment (and at various times in the past e.g. in 1974) is a very important country for the UK and US to have on side. For these reasons the cries of a nation as small as Cyprus will at best be ignored or at worst be used as a tool to gain leverage with Turkey on certain issues. With regards the elections I doubt it will make much difference who is voted in to the UK government's stance on The Cyprus Problem. Foreign Policy in the UK has tended to depend much on the relations between the UK and US administrations.
What might happen at some time in the future is a down-sizing of the SBAs if an anti-war party (e.g. Lib Dems) comes to power.
Currently the odds at my local betting shop for this to happen are 150-1.
