Driving in Cyprus...

Postby purdey » Fri Feb 15, 2008 3:02 pm

I do not profess to be the best driver in the world but in Cyprus I would award myself a gold medal. What is with the Police and their lack of precence on the roads ?
Come on Cyprus there are millions to be made in Cyprus in fines alone.Drunk drivers, speeding,no seat belts, unfit cars, the old traffic light trick,it goes on and on.
My father was hit two weeks ago by a drunk driver, who proceeded to move his car after the accident and then went home before the Police arrived 1hr later.Luckily no one was hurt, but my fathers new car will cost £1500 to repair.

My next business venture in Cyprus will be speed cameras,so beware...

You forgot about the kids jumping between the seats. Cyprus really is something else when it comes to drivers and I have seen some crazy drivers in my time believe me

A Friend of ours always carried a disposable camera in her glove box for instances just like your Dads Purdey, her car was clobbered by another and the guy who hit her phoned for his mate who came along with a fork lift to move his car into a more " favourable" position . After that she always had the camera just in case.

Good thinking. When some idiot went into the back of me last year, his 'quick appearing' relatives kept telling me to move my car. I was on my own, and scared out of my wits. I wouldn't move so the driver reversed his! I have a great big car and his little car was a wreck. Justice I say. Thankfully, though only as an act of God, nobody was hurt! Shocked and shaken yes!

I was out on the road for about forty to fifty minutes today and came across one accident and evidence of another!!

The sad thing is it does not get any better.I love the traffic lights late at night, they are on red but people still creep across and then carry on.

Creep across :? you must live in a law biding neighbourhood they charge across red lights at 40 to 60 where I live ~ usually after midnight when there's only a 50/50 chance of being hit.

I once saw a taxi do a U turn on Limassol sea front, this was about 11pm a kid on a motorbike went straight into the side of him.

The kid was O.K. though despite not wearing a helmet all he was worried about was his hair immediately got out his comb and started tidying it up in the mirror of the bike.

I would not mind but it was me that the taxi was coming to pick up !!!! put me off taxi's for a long while.

Come on people... Calm down... Cyprus isn`t a good example but is the same shit in others countries (UE)...

Did you visite Portugal? or the south of Italy (Sicily)?

In Portugal is a chaos... all the portugueses with 5 years without a accident are a heroe... ehehehe

Cyprus isn`t soo bad :)

Agree with you gomesilva.

It's all about driving conditions and amount of traffic on the roads that dictates driving styles.

People are the same wherever you go.

However Cypriots do need to go when they need to go ...

Luckily, Cypriots are blessed with multitasking abilities beyond the norm ... so no other nation should try to mimic their style, otherwise you will come a cropper ....
