Driving in Cyprus...

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Driving here is great compared to the UK and some other countries
Depends what you mean. When I was in Dubai it was mental for car crashes (some good supercar ones too). Paris is the most scariest place ever. And Limassol for me is the worst I have seen for small crashes and the like. I mean considering everyone pretty much drives like spanners here you would think people would park a bit better and not jut out for cars to whack into them when they are not noticing other cars on the road. Strange eh? Same goes with casually walking across the road when everyone knows lots of people don't notice anything when driving in a straight line here.

Best I saw was outside Starbucks where we just heard this big smash. Basically was a car waiting at a red light while cars came from a side junction. A big old man's merc (can't resist the jibe...) came down the straight good visibility road (in the day) and smacked right into the back of the car with no slow down from about 20mph. Nice. Considering the red light and car could be easily seen from like 100 yards away, then is no excuse. Complete moron on a phone while checking out birds on the pavement I reckon.

Cheers

 I foolishly attempted to cross a road from a zebra crossing in Milano only to find darting Vespas totally ignoring me... I just gave up!

Come on Cyprus there are millions to be made in Cyprus in fines alone.Drunk drivers, speeding,no seat belts, unfit cars, the old traffic light trick,it goes on and on.
My father was hit two weeks ago by a drunk driver, who proceeded to move his car after the accident and then went home before the Police arrived 1hr later.Luckily no one was hurt, but my fathers new car will cost £1500 to repair.

My next business venture in Cyprus will be speed cameras,so beware...

sorry to hear about the accident.

Not sure where u are driving but there is always police on the side of the roads and if u also have not noticed there is already lots of cameras, sometimes they have set them up even in the high way but are not there 24/7 in the highway..but they are mostly just after the traffic lights which flash u for going passed red light and also for speeding.

Saying that there should be more cameras there is only cameras in the very busy areas in town. afou odigoun san vlakes merikes fores k en tous koftei prepei na stamatisoun simfono mazi sou :)

Like I said, limit all cars top speeds. Regulate advertising. Even better, limit car imports to one type of car specially made for Cyprus. If we all drove the same car it would take the glamour and the machismo out of the act of driving. Force us to drive rather than aim the bloody thing and press on the gas.

I can vouch for that!

When in Paris do not even attempt to cross the road unless you find a zebra crossing with traffic lights. And if you haven't managed to cross the road by the time the lights have turned Green? Well prepare to run the fastest you've ever run in your life! Although even when the light is still red once it looks like you've passed a car, that particular car speeds off anyway...I was only in Paris for one day, but by the end of it my ability to react fast had improved immensely...

I myself have only witnessed one 'crash' in Cyprus, and it wasn't a collision. It was some very 'cool' young guy attempting to do a wheelie going at god knows what speed, and without a helmet, on the main road running through the village. Suffice to say, it didn't quite work out as he imagined. His wheel must have hit a stone because the motorbike (which was a proper motorbike, not a little motora) got flicked into the air; the guy went flying across the pavement and was very lucky that the motorbike didn't land on top of him! I swear the bike span so fast on the ground that there were sparks flying everywhere! Thankfully, after a brief spell in hospital he was okay, but it was a pretty scary thing to witness..

I blame all that sunshine and heat; apparently it makes one feel invincible! 8)
