Cypriot jokes

Postby umit07 » Fri Feb 15, 2008 11:31 am

Well the forum being being a "Cyprus forum", I have never seen jokes related to Cyprus a bit odd.

So I thought I would start this thread where you could post jokes or just funny stuff that could only happen in Cyprus.

I'll start with a story my mother told be a few days back.

But before I start I would like to give a short insight into the matter. I live in a village called Zodia most of the population comes from two distinct villages in the south,, Episkopi ( Piskobu,Yalova) Limassol district and Ayani ( Aydın ) Paphos district. Well ever since these people have mixed after 74 they don't get on to well. We even have seperate football teams, we are the only village in the north to have two seperate football teams ( maybe on the entire Island).

People from Mallya and Ayani are famous for thier stingyness.

Anyway here it goes.

I guy from Ayani falls into a swamp and is calling for help. A bunch of people gather around and call out to him to give his hand, but the guy refuses . The people keep on asking for him to give his hand but he guy just won't. A short time later arrives another guy at the swamp from the village of mallya. He asks about what is going on and the other people tell him about the man stuck , not giving his hand. The guy from mallya says "I know what the problem is" and goes up to the guy stuck in the swamp and yells out "Take my hand", that very second the guy grabs his hand and gets pulled out. The other men all stunned by the incident ask why the guy wouldn't grab their hands. The guy from malya explains, "How could you ask a guy from Ayani to give you anything, they only take".

I hope it wasn't too lame.

Well the village ain't that small, pop. around 7000. You think it's just in our blood  . You should have seen the football matches in the past, I would just go because of the crazy atmosphere. At one point the police would search us because a lot of people would bring stones in their pockets to throw at the players. That day some people threw their mobiles onto the field. I would take a BB gun and shoot at police and umpires. Those were the days. 8)

Good thing you weren't throwing watermelons in the field. I beleive you grow the best watermelons in that area from what I remember. Not to mention the watermelon sweet. :)
