The British Mail of Cyprus

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The British Mail of Cyprus

Postby Sotos » Tue Feb 12, 2008 7:54 pm

OK I understand Cyprus Mail is against Papadopoulos. Not all newspapers have to be independent but I guess it would be good if there was a Cyprus daily in English language that was independent but anyways. But I think it should be renamed to "British Mail of Cyprus" because that is what it is! Not just about politics. Even their other topics. How many times do we have to read about the British toddler that got poisoned by drinking some detergent? They wrote 4-5 articles about it in just a week.

I tend to agree with your comments on this one Sotos. Its a shame that this publication along with the Cyprus Weekly is the only regular source of News that non Greek speaking persons can get from the region. I would in fact go a step further than you in saying that not only is it anti TPap if you read the published letters section and the Opinion section it seems to be anti anything Cypriot at times.

Good for the classifieds but not much else IMO

Er, you do realise that for an island the size of Cyprus, with a demographic interested in reading English language newspapers being what it is....1 daily and 1 weekly is actually a good effort?

And you do realise the ridiculous shoe-string budget the paper operates on?

And that their journalists earn very little and work very hard to get the stories they do?

And that there is no such thing as a truly independent newspaper...even the Independent in the UK is far from independent.

You can hardly talk about good news values and the importance of integrity and scrutiny, Sotos, not being the warped bubble that you are.

talk about pot kettle black.

They are extreme left views and activist journalism at its worst. People who do not speak Greek and seek read news about Cyprus actually think the Cyprus Mail is respectable paper. ptew ptew
