Wishful thinking! Papadopoulos commands about one third of the vote (less than the total sum of the parties that support him) and the other two have shown a will to come together and try to do some damage control in the face of the amateurish handling of the Cyprob over the last five years that have seen us slide dangerously close to partition (taiwanization apart). Saving Cyprus is more important than ideological differences and petty party differences. Yet, I agree Papadopoulos performed better last night but I cannot believe that Cypriots will decide on the basis of last night's so called debate.

You were given the impression that he regards christofias as a bit of a simpledom giving him an occassional "there, there, everything will be allright, don't get upset". Christofias allowed tpap to be seen as the assertive one of the 2.

Can Cyprus really have as a President a man who stood and applauded enthousiastically at the remarks made by Cuba's Castro when referring to the USA as our common enemy ?
I do not take part in Cypriot politics as I'm totaly detached from the political scene , but I'm not happy that AKEL with its communist ideals can be elected to run the country. Neither do I consider Papadopoulos as the ideal man to carry on , as for the others I know very little about them , but perhaps a coalition government would be more inclined to kick start the discussions for finding a solution.
Whoever comes to power let us hope that he will elevate our identity to the number one position and include our T/Cs as our compatriots and consider their predicament and their concerns too.

Haravgi disagrees with you DT. This newspaper thought Christofias was next to God in the pseudodebate.

Bananiot, Haravgi (Katsourides paper) would still say Christofias is next to god, even if christofias was debating with Jesus.

In my opinion (and that is as a Brit who is inelidgable to vote ) I think that the scenario you have just said
will probably be the outcome of the election.

My view is that TPap will win but that he needs the support of another party

Anyway Kallinxta Kumbaros .....Tora thelo na pesso (sorry if that sounds like village speak I learnt my Cypriot up in the mountains)

if kassoulides doesn't prgress to 2nd round and thats a big IF according to the latest polls which are starting to include the Cypriots arriving from abroad (5% of electorate and 65% of it is Disy) Then i think its pretty bvious there will be a Disy-Akel coalition!!!!!! Tpap will have no chance to beat this despite Disy leaking a large chunk of its votes to Tpap due to the simple hatred they have for akel.

On the other side such a govt would last about 12 months, long enough for an attempt at a solution and then it would collapse.

I think if such coalition happens then both AKEL and DISY will loose big time. And I am not talking just about these elections but in general. Look how many votes they lost due to their "yes" and "yesno" in the referendum.

AKEL and DISY together have just a bit over 60%. All it takes is a leakage of a bit more than 5% from each, and if they attempt such coalition then such leakage is certain from both.

I think either AKEL or DISY would be stupid to even attempt such thing. I am not an oracle, but I my prediction is that Papadopoulos will be elected in the second round with the biggest difference ever recorded in second round elections.
