Well,I just said it,VP...Nothing bad ever happened to the TCs or the GCs since 1955...Now stop all this nonsense and let get back to Cricket...or football...or whatever... :)

What are you on about Bir, people just continue to ignorethe other sides suffering and pain we will never solve jack shit with this attitude.

I am in agreement with you,VP...No solution will be found till both sides take a good look at themselves, admit their roles in this mindless conflict, and show some empathy and compassion for the "other"...We are as far away from that as from the Sun...So we might as well take it to the lunatic extreme...Nothing ever happened in Cyprus....The TCs woke up one day in 1963,decided they were bored and started deserting their places of birth, their villages and their homes, just to brighten up their lives...The GCs did the same in 1974....They looked around and realised life for the TCs were all roses after their rush of blood to the head,so they decided to move on mass to the South just to experience what it was like to lose your homes and the lands of your ancestors...And life has been so good since then that no one wants to return,no one wants to solve anything...
Life is good in Cyprus...And it is getting better by the year for all...So there is nothing to worry about...Lets drink and be merry...Watch some sport on the telly...eat some nice food...In 100 years time, none of us will be here....I leave you with that nice ,cheerful thought... :)

The TCs deserted their homes in 63 primarily to facilitate their dream of TAKSIM and not due to GC aggression against them.

Your propaganda is not appreciated, and you can stick your tiresome and pathetic pleas for compassion and empathy right up your bum..

Don't worry,Paphidi...You will find less and less "tiresome and pathetic pleas for compassion and empathy " from me in the future...I realised most people here are not capable of it...Enjoy your hate-mongering and blind prejudices regarding all things Turkish and Turkish Cypriot....I am sure they will make you a beter person...

Bir , Paphitis is not posting from memory , he was not around at the time as you and I were and neither was he born in Cyprus. Let me tell you that you and I are closer by the fact that we are both , above all else , Cypriots , who also feel the pain and suffering of all of our people regardless if T/Cs or G/Cs. Paphitis has never interacted with any T/Cs , he knows only the bad side just as some T/Cs know the bad side of the G/Cs.
I'm lucky in a sense that I have very many friends who come from all Cypriot communities and who are not blinkered by propaganda and hatred . Never give up my friend .

I was posting something for you in another thread as you were posting this...There is a saying I like a lot...Something to the effect 'if you want to know the truth about something ask someone young enough to know everything...' Because we have grown older,my dear compatriot,we know how much we don't know about life...Paphidis is young enough to know everything...We might have to take his word for it...

Confirming my presumption of an average of five people in each household (based upon information about villages), the UN Secretary-General's (1964: 29-30 - para. 94) previous report on Cyprus (S/5764) noted that the population of Omorphita at the end of 1963 'was about 5,000 Turkish Cypriots living in approximately 1,000 houses and 2,000 Greek Cypriots living in 400 houses'. So in villages and in towns, we can assume that an average of five Cypriots lost their homes each time one house was destroyed.

S/5764 (29-30 - para. 94) recorded that,

From one hundred villages in which damage had been reported by the interested community, thirty-five have already been checked. In these thirty-five villages it was found that approximately 300 houses are in need of rebuilding and about the same number requiring repairs.... A
special inquiry had been made in the Omorphita area, a suburb of Nicosia. In this area about forty Greek Cypriot houses and 120 Turkish Cypriot houses had been destroyed, and 100 Greek Cypriot and 500 Turkish Cypriot houses partially damaged.

S/5950 (48 - para. 180) later concluded that,

UNFICYP carried out a detailed survey of all damage to properties throughout the island during the disturbances, including the Tylliria fighting. It shows that in 109 villages, most of them Turkish Cypriot or mixed villages, 527 houses have been destroyed while 2,000 others have suffered damage from looting. In Ktima 38 houses and shops have been destroyed totally and 122 partially. Ιn the Omorphita suburb of Nicosia 50 houses have been totally destroyed while a further 240 have been partially destroyed there and in adjacent suburbs.

It is confusing, because the first report used the terms 'requiring repairs', 'partially damaged', 'in need of rebuilding' and 'destroyed', but the second report used 'damaged', 'partially destroyed' and 'totally destroyed'. I guess that 'requiring repairs', 'partially damaged' and 'damage' mean the same; 'in need of rebuilding' and 'partially destroyed' mean the same; and 'destroyed' and 'totally destroyed' do.

The earlier report said that 160 houses had been 'destroyed' and 600 'partially damaged' in Omorphita, and the later report said that 50 houses had been 'totally destroyed' and 240 'partially destroyed' there, and the later report included 'adjacent suburbs' as well. So 'totally destroyed' must mean razed to the ground (just a pile) and 'partially destroyed' must mean ruined (just the shell or skeleton). The later report must not have bothered to list the buildings damaged in the suburbs.

It's still unclear whether the 'damage' and the 'damage from looting' were the same. Presumably, some of the buildings were damaged in the kinds of attacks that (partially or totally) destroyed the others.

Not a true statement. Unless you have lived those years you will never understand. When people left in 1963/64, they had intentions on moving back to their villages. I think you have been reading 're-written history'.

My grandfather was the Mouhktar, he never even spoke of Taksim. It was only mentioned in conversations as a counter move to Enosis.

Regards and a Happy New Year.

I’ll tell you something you may not be aware of…

In those days those big black beams (“volitsia” we called them) used to make ceilings which formed the basis of the rooftops, were pretty expensive to buy so pinching those would’ve been a priority for looters and that would also explain why some abandoned houses ended up without a rooftop and not so much wear & tear!

Be careful with GR. He is going through a slow 'metamorphosis'. I dont know the end result yet. He might even join forces with us to expel the Greeks.
