Why the Cypriots are just like that?

Like What?

Why do we control each others life. Why the parents have so much control over their children.
Over their marriage.
Over their grand kids.

The adults try to control their parents. Their brothers their sisters.

and finally why the girls don't have the freedom to say this is my boyfriend. why can't they just move in with someone they love or want to have fun with.


Oooopppsss sorry, I thought we were in Europe.

M&S dont use wrappings. As long as they are not 'soiled' It ought to be fine.

you are like that because CY is a small island, and until very recently, a very isolated island. it can get so boring there, looking at the same people day after day, that you all have nothing better to do than sit around and talk about each other, and who doesn't like to control their own world?
sorry, not meaning to offend anyone, but that is my take on why the Cypriots are that way. another century or two and things should be alot different. who knows, now that you are part of the EU, it may be a few gernerations instead of a few centuries.

There is some truth in what you say GG. Cyprus is a tad Insular and everyone 'know' everybody elses business - well almost. I have heard said in the same family, " oh yeah, my girl is a good girl", then you hear them saying, " oh yeah, my boy is out spreading his seed. Thats my boy". The hypocrisy of it all. Times are changing though. The girls are catching up. (slowly)

i was afraid it would catch all hell.

i am reminded of an entry in my great grandmother's journal, posted in the early 1900's (circa 1922?) when she saw an aeroplane for the first time. all the town had come out to see this intresting new invention and meet the pilot. at the end of the entry, she wrote "I wonder if the aeroplane will ever be a suitable means of travel."

the invention of air travel certainly opens CY up to the rest of the world.
