Cyprus Life ........ A Perpetual Holiday?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Umit you may like to think so ... but I still have to maintain my UK business interests until I wind them all up .

I run a home, look after an ageing mum ..... a young son and have had to sort out all sorts of daily things from buying a car to registering a dog to sorting out antiquated electrics, plumbing and neighbours that have had the run of the place whilst we have been away ...

Busy ... is not the problem ...

In fact I have had less time for posting and certainly way less time for research than I did back in the UK ..

What are you doing research on by the way? I also like to think that you are conducting phycological experiments on TC's on the forum:roll:

To be honest .... the TCs have proved to be less interesting than I had hoped

No doubt their situation is sad ... hostages of Turkey no less... :(

Not a perpetual holiday unless you are wealthy enough to retire completely I suppose.

But a significantly better lifestyle than in the UK. ;-)

for as long as you have enough money to supprt yourself,it is holiday mode.If you can fill your days and nights without having to work, and can pay someone to sort out all the various government offices etc for you,it will remain lovely. However,if you ca'nt find work, have no income and your savings are depleting rapidly, you can't afford private medical insurance and are ill, cannot afford sky tv and a night out, then it is not so rosy.I hope you never get to that point and that you keep enjoying your life in Cyprus.

The 'bubble' will last as you long as you want it too.

Living here is just like living anywhere - life really is just what you make it.

Personally I try to return home for the summer months - way too hot and humid here and each year is getting worse - in my humble opinion!

Beverley ... the problems are the same wherever you go.

It is however a matter of perception.

I have been doing all my own leg-work for sorting officials etc. (a great way to learn) ... however, along the way the weather and atmosphere and general demeanor of the people makes the whole thing so much more relaxed and bearable than when doing these sorts of things in the UK.

No miserable faces encountered on the whole.

And today .... I saw a baby snake slithering through the grass ... so cute :D

I saw a robin whilst out walking the dogs this morning. Nothing unusual about that I hear you say, but it is the first one I have seen this year! I was very happy!

Last week I saw a fox skulking across the road - wish I had been quick with my camera phone, but it was gone within seconds!!

Only ever seen one snake, thankfully!!

When does reality kick in?

I've been here nearly a month (that's a long time for me to be doing the same thing) ... and it still feels like I am on holiday.

The sun shines 99% of the time, I stroll by the sea every day, the food is exceptional, drink is plentiful and unlimited ... the people are in a permanent state of "relaxed"... 8)

Those of you who have settled here permanently ... please tell me, does the holiday atmosphere ever end ... when does real life begin? ... you know, the rat race, grime, misery, poor weather, despondency, the familiar etc.

Or is Cyprus the perpetual holiday island? :?

The quality of life is great and thats after many years here, despite having to work! Hope it doesn't change when i sober up! (just kidding) The only negative aspect for me is the entry into the EU. I haven't met anyone who wanted Cyprus to join the EU. All it has done for us common folks is whack the price of living up, quite significantly!

Well another day in paradise. :D

Woke up to sun emerging over eastern hills. Compelled to frolic by the sea, with shorts on ... so warm and pleasant. Then a drive up to Stavros.

Unfortunately ... reality of ever-present Turks had to be explained to ten year old son.

Discussion followed about why if the Turkish army was supposedly on Cyprus to "protect" TCs following the previous Nicosia experience of divided City, flag on mountain etc.

So why do they need to occupy this subsection of the Island when there are no TCs there? :?

Anyway ... unbelievable snow-ball fight followed in the heights of the hills, before a lovely walk observing Mouflon, baby snakes (again), orchids, almond blossom .... whilst breathing in the freshest cleanest air imaginable to the sound of bird-song.

Hardly any cars seen all day bar a few red-reg plates driven by red-faced visitors. :D
