How Backward the Turk ....

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Birsel » Thu Feb 07, 2008 2:17 pm

HEY GUYS ...AS a turkish cypriot my thoughts on the Turban or scarf which women wear have as much individual right to wear it as us who chosses not to wear it...I think its wrong to say that the present Turkish government was choosen just by the non educated or the illiterate people of Turkey that would be an insult directly to the whole of the people in Turkey.Anyway leaving the past behind and looking for the vision of how it would be if the government passes the law through the Turkish parliament, and after it is approved by the president..And at last if it is accepted by the Constitutional court...If this happens my opinion is that slowly there will be a rise of religious extremism...It was not long ago that Mustafa kemal ATATURK said " The Turkish Republic was to be a state of society entirely modern and completely civilized in spirit and form" There are millions of people in Turkey who dont want the head scarf or turban to be allowed in universities. I know i said above that they have the right to wear it and they should be allowed to wear it. In universities evryone can wear what they choose so why cant they you maybe asking? Why because there are people in Turkey just waiting or planing to slowly step by step turn The Republic of Turkey into another extermist islamic country. Which I believe that they wont be able to because the UNDERGROUND will stop them by another Millitary coup. By enabling the women to be able to go to universities with turban will cause a cycle of more wants like laws enabling them to be able to wear turbans evrywear including prep schools primary schools etc.... Do these girls have the choice to not wear it ? the answer is NO. When I listened to one speech of erdogan i was shocked...He used to not except that the Turban can be a political symbol and NOw he said that so what if Turban can be a political symbol....I watched many of his speeches and he is taking baby steps to create a Religious extremist Turkey. HERE we must not blame the women who want to wear the Turban because most of them are pure and nice people...Their mothers wore it so they had to take it up, or some with thier own will choose to wear it...ANY WAY we will just have to wait and SEE. :)

Welcome to the forum. :)

You have a well balanced view of the need to allow freedom for the individual to wear and practice, what they wish.

Yet you clearly point out how such debates which lead to laws to allow such things, can eventually be abused by extremists. The outcome is then the taking away of those rights by enforcing women to adopt the wearing of the scarf or face opposition from their community.

I think we agree here ... women should not be singled out by such Laws .... the Laws of Equality should cover everyone's rights.

I look forward to your continued contribution on the forum :D

Those people who claim that "they should be allowed to wear anything they want" are the first ones to make disgusting remarks or even violent attacks on women who wear "revealing" clothes on the streets, specially in summer, so i find it extremely hypocritical to hear that they are "solely after their freedom of wearing whatever they want" that is utter rubbish, they see it as one small victory towards everything Ataturk had fought for, and they will not stop with head scarfs.

How would they react if girls come to university in bikini tops? Let me also remind you that these are the same people who have designated beaches which have sections divided by huge curtains that allow women and men enjoy the beach without actually "turning each other on" :?

Call me ignorant, stupid, whatever .... but really shah, I do not understand the point you are making :?

Are you saying they should or should not have the right to wear what they like.?

Should there be Laws or not, dictating such matters?

I am saying they should be able to do/wear whatever they like (even though they do not hold such liberal views themselves towards others), however they should keep their mental disease called Islam and everything related to it away from the state and education, the further the better!

And welcome Birsel, always nice to see more TC's here ;)
