Well, I only really post here now and on my virtual pub… why doesn’t everybody that reads this (and posts on other boards) post a link to this thread?

"Well, seawater is free but it costs loads in terms of energy and pollution to turn it into potable water"

I did imentions SOLAR powered desalinator for 15000 sterling. Solar means no pollution and you get unlimited supply of potable water. For a lot less than that you can put together a cistern taht collects rain from your roof and property. Like the ancients used to say, goddess Athena is powerful and helpful but you must move an arm too.

It sounds like the perfect solution… yet…

Where do you get the sea water from? Obviously the sea but where do you get a regular, reliable delivery of sea water from? It means having trucks driving all over the place which is in itself expensive and polluting…

What standard of water does the building industry use for concrete etc.,?

And how much per annum?

And the number of building permits likely to be exercised in 2008?

Just a thought...................

No, you make a good point…

Not only does concrete us a huge amount of water; in the summer they have to poor thousands of gallons of water on fresh concrete to stop it setting too quickly and cracking.

Last year I was in hospital opposite that new Tesco store in Pafos. After the concrete was poured on the first floor they had hose pipes running all over it 24 hours a day for a week to keep it cool.

So actually suspending construction in the summer months alone could save thousands of litres of water just in the cooling…

Also, as an aside concrete production is a major source of CO2 – 8% of the total world output if I remember correctly…

I've just passed a truck full of water with a large sprinkler on the back laying water on to a dirt track, about half a mile of it!!! At least a swimming pool load of water. Why???

There's no hope really!

A development close to use has just had their asphalt road laid.

As part of the process they put gravel down then sprayed thousands of gallons of water on it before rolling. The water helps it to compact.

The only good side is that if it comes from a tanker it is probably from a non-potable supply. :?

Let's not forget that just as we are feeling the smaller, land per capita-squeeze because the Turk-TCs are lolling around in vastly more reserves then they justifiably need or deserve etc ....

We are equally feeling the greater burden of the lower rainfalls. Proportionally we are suffering more, because they are enjoying excesses.

Also those 43,000 Turkish troops and all those thirsty Anatolian settlers we keep hearing about .... they are surely affecting the water table or ground reserves.

If the Turk-TCs were fair, just, reasonable, honest .... none of this would be quite as desperate.

@ cyprusgrump

I don't blame you if you no longer want me to be your Queen :(

(But try to remember Queen Elizabeth I .... she had to see off the Spanish Armada. And Queen Victoria ...... she had to build her Empire. 8) )

Queens can be businesslike, yet sweet too ..... are you convinced? :?
