I have just read this book written by Afghan Author khaled Hosseina. It features life in Afghanistan through the eyes of a young boy, who subsequently lives through the overthrowing of the monarchy, the Russian invasion and then Taliban rule. I also managed to get a copy of the film - it is a very moving story and I strongly recommend it. It is in part English and part Afghan language with sub-titles when necessary.
