Thats a risk you take when you take a side on such a divisive issue, Expatkiwi. True, GR crossed the line with what he attempted, but he is an example of a person who has a strong opinion on the Cyprus issue, and this forum has more than its fair hare of those. You probably don't want my advice, but here it is for what it's worth: treat the forum here as just that: a forum. Don't use it as a weapon. It will only provoke reprisal.

A few minutes ago I was banned from entering a chat channel for cyprus on the undernet irc network. The reason being!

Upon reading their official rules there is no mention of any racial background required to join the channel. Typical "Greek" sly moves as usual . WHAT HAPPENED TO WE ARE ALL CYPRIOT BROTHERS. I sent the admin an email just wait and see what sort of reply I'II get.

its also the same in undernet when u join #istanbul they ban you instantly when they see a .cy ip or if your in the channel cyprus and have a completely different ip as long as ur in cyprus they dont allw you in or have a.cy ip

by admin if you mean oeprs the channel can ban for whatever reaosn they want if you mean admin chanel ops u probably wont even get a reply..

Oh for God`s sake Umit...they didn`t mean Turkish Cypriots, they must have thought that you were a real Turk.

Go back and tell them that you are not a real TURK but rather a TURKISH CYPRIOT and see how they will accept you back unconditionally with open arms

Honestly, I wouldn`t want to be spreading propaganda by telling you the truth behind it.

My Nene is Turkish Cypriot, so it wouldn`t matter anyway...not relevant to Cyprus in the eyes of many.

In IRC many people are auto banned from some channels when they join with an IP of some hostile country. I guess umit was using a Turkish IP address and that is why he got banned! As paliometoxo said they do the same with Cyprus IPs in some Turkish IRC channels. When I was using IRC when it became popular in Cyprus many years ago there was the problem that some Turks would join and start swearing or putting Turkish flags in ASCII and those kind of things. That channel is in Greek language so practially all Turks that went there did it to cause trouble. So they decided to block all Turkish IPs.

Computers are not smart to analyze your DNA over the internet This auto ban is based on IP. If I went to Turkey and tried to go to this IRC channel it would ban me to. And if umit comes to an internet cafe in the free areas and he tried to go to some of the Turkish channels he will be banned too. Thats how those IP bans work.
