so why 40,000 troops?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

so why 40,000 troops?

i think it is clear what the views of turkey are over cyprus....as always agressive....why? if the Turkish Cypriots really wanted protection,..,.why not have a 1:1 ration of troops... why 3 times as much? i think the answer to the questions is clear :

The aggressiveness of Turkey and its expansionist aspirations against Cyprus

• Ensevaled and occupied the northern part of
• Removed the Greek population
• Transfer illegal Turkish settlers who have distorted the demographic composition of the island
• It prevents the discovery of the missing persons
• It destroyed the cultural heritage of the Greeks of Cyprus
• Changed the Greek toponymy
• illegally seizes property of Greeks in Cyprus
• Preserves since 1974 strong military force in an aggressive anti-free territories
• systematically violates the sea and airspace of Cyprus with:
-- Military Exercises
-- Exercises Research Rescue
-- Flights of Martial Aircraft
-- War ship

so bottom line is what the TC'S go on about protection etc etc,,is a load of BS...

The aggressiveness of Turkey and its expansionist aspirations against Cyprus

If this were the case, why has it not used it's '40,000 troops' over the last 34 years ?

They are here till a solution is found, then they'll go home.

I think you'll find that this comes into play with regards to a solution.

I've just reminded / informed  my 83 year old mother who played a fairly prominent part in Cyprus / Greek politics, that the Turks have upwards of 40,000 troops stationed on Cyprus.

The look on her face is one to behold. :(

WHY?

And for what reason, so many?

Sure Cyprus can mount a few thousand troops ...Why does Turkey need to station over 40, 000 Troops on a Small Island like Cyprus?

For me that says it all!

No logic ........ No reason.

Turkey is plain aggressive, expansionist and opportunists as an army .... even if it mounts a response to match its opponent, perhaps a little bigger to ensure success, still this number is beyond all reasonable expectations.....

Cyprus has a few thousand troops ....and Turkey 40,000 Troops on foreign soil?

How aggressive is that?

No place for such disgusting, aggressive countries like Turkey in the modern world

Turks go home! ... You are BAD.!

My mum has gone to bed ...... very sad. :(

I hate you! Turkey

OK! I wasn't going to even bother with this thread but it seems that I have to explain again......

The fact that the "RoC" will exploit ANY situation it can get it's hands on to stop us from ever getting a fair deal in Cyprus is why the Turkish troops are there in such numbers.......The "RoC" is keen to hav them removed because it will be almost impossible for them to ever return when and not if the "RoC" upgrades its attack capabilities whether it be troops or weapons. As the so called legitimate government of Cyprus upgrades because it can and Turkey moves in troops to counter, then Turkey will look like the aggressor which is exactly what the "RoC" wants....It will create a win win situation and the danger of conflict will increase. The ordinary GC should be grateful that the peacekeepers are there. (Now I will sit back and wait for sarcastic remarks about my last comment while everything else I said is ignored) [/code]

Well look who's crying for genocide, the people who tried to exterminate their own brothers and sisters, while trying to serve the ever famous Hellenistic expansionism idea called ENOSIS!

There is just no limit to the amount of shameless hypocrisy that can be found in this forum, specially by little cry babies like Phoenix who can incredibly, talk SO MUCH, yet say absolutely NOTHING, and NEVER accepts the doings of her people she loves to defend so much. Blame it all on the evil Turks, it saves you from the trouble of actually having to use your brain.

Who cares about the number being 40,000, let it be 100,000 what the difference does it make, the point is it has caused your failure, but at least it gave us a peace of mind for now.

Why don't you face the reality of our Cyprus Republic no longer existing because of Tpaps tricks and that the "RoC" is not that same republic....

Once and for all that figure of 200, 000 does not exist....Over 40,000 went back as soon as it was over...Stop quoting from the RoC" propaganda pages.....There has been other settlements since and if your so called government had not lied to the rest as to exchanges being illegal then maybe all would have been resolved by now.....Keeping those people at refugee status is another crime that Tpap should be made accountable for but I do not see you protesting about that either. Your kind of reality doesn't doesn't seem to suit the rest of the world...
