The close proximity to Turkey makes such troop levels really unnecessary. If war broke out, Turkish air force bases would pound the hell out of the interior of the island while Turkish warships would blast every ship in harbor. Turkey's proximity is therefore the best deterrent.

Did you not read what I wrote Expat???What did you think???

I did. You would be right of course, if Turkey wasn't so close. Turkey can very easilly reinforce, plus strike from home bases. From a military point of view, that strategy is sound.

I think you are forgetting that the "RoC" is an EU country now and that would put a deterrent in a much higher spot than attack......The "RoC" will use every trick that it can get its hands on to start the rouble needed for the EU to respond...As it stands an aggressive move will be seen as just that by the "RoC".....Any conflict that would need a reaction from Turkeys' shores would be seen as aggression from Turkey....

same reason the french wanted the german army out of their country. Its generally frowned upon to occupy other country's land and throw out inhabitants from their homes.

We see it from another angle you want them out the way so you can start trouble again and have free range to do what you want and that makes us feel very unsecure, all TCs agree they will go if there is a solution.

FOget the officers...we've been saying for years that if the turkish army leaves the entire national guard will be dissolved the same day.

Or we could have it your way and we'll get rid of the 50 greek officers and you get rid of 40k turkish troops.
