The reason why there are 40,000 Turkish troops in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is very clear pal, to keep the likes of you, Kiefeas, Piratis , Get Real and not to forget the little mad and utterly racist puppet master "phoenix" in your places so that you do not dare to attempt to genocide us Turkish Cypriots again for your ENOSIS dream.

Get used to it pal, they are in the Turkish Republic of Cyprus to stay as long as you GCs do not give up your greedy dreams of turning Cyprus into another Greek island.

The CIA's World Factbook says that there are 184,352 males aged between 18-49 so, in theory, available for militar service.

Taking the total forces available to the GCs from the first set of numbers, there seem to be around 100,000. The conventional ratio of attackers/defenders to have defeat/victory is 3:1 in the attackers favour. The Turkish Army numbers (more than 30,000 but less than 40,000) would seem to be around this magic ratio.

Naturally quality of soldiers and their equipment count, but that's a road I'll leave others to go down.

Thank you Observer.....Enough to keep them at bay but not enough of a threat to their security...Highlighting the lies told by DT and others to fool the world...And why the EU and UN had to pass he resolutions they did but are not worried about the Turkish Army.....

what observer has not mentioned is

1) In regular troops you outnumber the national guard 4-1
2) You also outnumber by at least 4-1 on Tanks, Artillery and missiles
3) You have an airforce we do not.
4) Half of our reservists won't turn up
5) Talat can pick up the phone and call his buddy erdogan nd request another 200,000 regular troops a-n-y-t-i-m-e he wants.

Eric,

The close proximity to Turkey makes such troop levels really unnecessary. If war broke out, Turkish air force bases would pound the hell out of the interior of the island while Turkish warships would blast every ship in harbor. Turkey's proximity is therefore the best deterrent.

Eriko my son , how many of these countries recognise the "TRNC" That is what matters plonker , anyway it only concerns Cypriots not Foreigners such as you mate.
Just wandering incidentally if the 80% of Cypriots were T/Cs , I wonder whether you would allow an 18% minority G/Cs to hijack 40 % of Cypriot land . fill it with Greek Mountain people and calling this 40 % the Greek Republic of Cyprus. !! I just wonder what Turkey would have to say on the matter .
Look mate , all Cypriots are equally the owners of Cyprus. Those amongst us however whose allegiance is to a foreign country such as Turkey and Greece have a perfect solution.Pack up and piss off to their respective roots , so that I , Bir , Kikapu and other TRUE CYPRIOTS can enjoy our island , which incidentally is far more advanced in every sphere than the two foreign cancers.
Their flag is not our flag , we share certain values and culture but we also share with many other countries.Did you know that Cyprus has one of the highest life expectancy in this part of the world. Why join nations that luck behind .

You can go along with the wrongs of that decision to not only recognise the illegal state of the :"RoC" but to let them into the EU but we will stick to what is right mate. Although I think that the EU made the right decision to let them in and clip their wings it has sent the wrong message out to the TCs.......Something quick has to be done to redress that as they promised...

I did. You would be right of course, if Turkey wasn't so close. Turkey can very easilly reinforce, plus strike from home bases. From a military point of view, that strategy is sound.
