Yellow slip...confused!!!

Postby Niki » Mon Feb 04, 2008 2:58 pm

I haven't read anything about this or been told by anyone before now but today we went to see an agent to sort out my parent's alien immigration visa and they told me if you have applied before 2008 and haven't yet got your yellow slip you have to start from scratch and re-apply as Nicosia got themselves into such a mess they scrapped the lot and are telling people they need to start again!! We only found out because I happened to be arranging things for my parents.

The Alien booklets are defunct and the yellow slip is the only thing that is issued which we will need if we want to buy a house so no choice.

So, all that expense, sorting out paperwork and waiting in queues at the lovely immigration offices was for nothing!!! Not to mention the fact that they now have thousands of people needing to re-apply all at the same time so you can't even get an appointment for 3 months.

Has anyone else heard this?

Niki - really p****d off and confused.

I am but I now have to pay them twice within 4 months! I also believe it is against European law for Cyprus to insist on this, probably worried about people in immigration losing jobs - and backhanders.

The ID cards will be another pleasurable experience after we've sorted this mess out! Maybe you could queue for me and I'll jump in at the last minute?

Well as I posted previously I applied to immigration last June for my ARC ~ it didn't go as expected but at the end of the day the guy really only wanted the £25 fee from me and also surprisingly from my Cypriot wife which he had absolutely no chance of getting.

Now in such a small time scale they are telling me that they have got it wrong on that occasion bearing in mind they probably knew about the new procedure at the time as far as I'm concerned they took the £25 under false pretences ~ I'd heard the procedure had changed and did comment about it to the immigration guy when he was processing my application ~ his reply was " I believe it's changed but we have not been officially told " ~ I bet they had the forms already there.

Now I wonder if they will be refunding the thousands of £25 's they have conned out of unsuspecting immigrants over the last 10 months ~ it's a little to convenient to just scrap the procedure, keep the money and tell you to reapply .

I certainly will not be actively chasing them to reapply and will sort it out on the day if told I have to ~ I will certainly be asking for my £25 back before I consider any effort on my part .

As for the ID card ~ that was a pleasure ~ the lady I spoke to although very busy was more than willing to help and the procedure was all done in a quick and efficient manner including taking a digi image for my card
~ when I called round to the office the next day the lady recognised me and handed the card over straight away ~ and with a smile too.

To say it seems a bit of a con is really an understatement as far as the immigration dept is concerned but as a lot of folk need what ever replaces the yellow slip to get their cars registered or the deeds of their house in their names I suppose they have most people by the short and curlies

Bill ~ who still thinks he is here legally until told otherwise. :)

Bill, was the 25 Quid that you paid in Cypriot Pounds or Pounds Sterling? If you were to get a refund,it would be converted to its equivilant in Euros.

We also have a shambolic immigration process over here.It took a Chinese guy I know 18 months before his application for permanent residency was even processed. He is now a New Zealand citizen.
